Jim O'Brien

Jim O'Brien, 62, of East Wenatchee, WA, passed away on December 7, 2023, after battling cancer for nearly 7 years. He was born on January 15, 1961, in Kittery, Maine. Jim was a loving husband, dad, papa, and friend. He had a quick and sarcastic wit; he was always ready with a spot-on comeback or nickname that perfectly fit. Jim had a deep love for the outdoors and was a master fisherman, hunter, and explorer. He was always up for an adventure, the earlier the better, especially if it meant getting to the good spots first. He had a lot of “good spots” some he would share and some he wouldn’t divulge. Jim made lifelong friends through his outdoor pursuits, connecting with others who shared his passions. Jim attended Peshastin Dryden Elementary School and PD High School, where he excelled in sports, participating in basketball, football and track. He attended Wenatchee Valley College, where he played football for the Wenatchee Valley Knights. He dedicated 40 plus years of his career to Alcoa Wenatchee Works. In his free time, Jim enjoyed fishing, hunting, hiking, chasing his grandson & taking his dogs, Jake & Remi out in the field. He found a love for gardening in the last few years, and it became a sort of therapy for him while he was going through treatments. Rain or shine, sick or healthy, he was in his garden growing peppers, tomatoes, kohlrabi, watermelon and much more. Jim found solace and joy in the great outdoors, pursuing his hobbies whenever he could and sharing them with his family and friends. Jim is survived by his wife of 40 years, Brenda, who was his rock and constant support throughout his battle with cancer. They have been on many memorable trips around the world and camping adventures. He always said he wouldn’t know what to do without her. His daughter, Nicole as well as his son, Joshua (Cori). He was blessed with two grandsons, Lucas James and Jameson Michael. Jim had four brothers, Aaron (Julie) Shawn (Kandi), Kelly (Janae) and Scott (Jaclyn). His sisters in law, Kim (Bruce), Shelly (Scott) and brother in law Don (Kelly) and mother in law, Cleo. Jim had many nieces and nephews. He was proceeded in death by his father, Warren W. O’Brien and mother, Lorraine A. O’Brien. Jim will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all those who had the pleasure of knowing him. May his memory live on through the stories and memories shared by those who loved him. A Celebration of Life will be held on January 12th, 2024, at 11 am, at Faith Presbyterian Church in East Wenatchee.
