Robert " Bob" Akers Jr.

Robert W Akers Jr passed away in the arms of Jesus on November 29th 2023 at the age of 76 following a long hard fought battle with Multiple Myeloma. Bob was a beloved husband, father and grandfather. He was born in Wenatchee, WA, to Robert W Akers Sr and Marilee (Wray) Akers on August 24th, 1947. He will be missed dearly by his wife of 56 years, Jamie (Cockrum) Akers; his daughters, Carri Remsberg (Gary), and Janelle Norris (Mike); his son, Jason (Kris). He was blessed with four beautiful grandchildren, Zachary, Kyle, Sydney (Remsberg), and Autumn Akers. He has 3 sisters, Judy (Akers) Sault, Debbie (Akers) McBride and Betsy (Akers) James. Alongside the love he had for his family, he had many other passions. Bob worked in the fruit industry as a domestic fruit salesman until his retirement. A career that took him all around the United States where he developed lifelong friends and clients. He would often share stories about these trips and all the wonderful food he experienced along the way. His love of fine food carried into the kitchen where he was an awesome cook. Many great family events centered around food prepared by him. Cajun feeds were a particular favorite and he pulled it off with style. Bob was also an avid bass fisherman. He took pride in introducing new fishermen to the sport and would often take them out in his boat and show them the tricks to ensure success. He spent hours on the water with his close friends and family. There wasn’t a lake he couldn’t tell you a wonderful story about. He fished in numerous bass tournaments with his local bass club and has many trophies to show his successes, many thanks to the homemade baits he would make in his own garage. His love for the sport inspired him to start a small gathering of fellow anglers called Fishermen Forum. This small group that began five years ago has now grown to over 100 men who attend. Bob loved the game of volleyball and was involved in the sport in many ways over the years. He played in his younger days and transitioned to coaching later on. He coached for many years in club volleyball as well as varsity head coach at Eastmont High School where he had the unique opportunity to coach his daughter Carri. Bob then became a full-time spectator and loved watching and cheering on his granddaughter, Sydney, through high school and her time at Central Washington. Bob was a strong Christian believer and gave his life to serve God in many different aspects of his life. A small family “Celebration of Life” will be held in the Spring of 2024.
