Alison Faye Randall

Alison Faye Randall passed away at her home under hospice care and in the loving arms of her family on August 4, 2019, at 10:40 p.m. She was with her family at the time while her husband, Francois Tremblay held her hand. Alison was born on February 27, 1967, in Hillsboro, OR, while her father taught school band in Vernonia, OR. She and her family moved to Wenatchee, WA, in 1968, where she later entered Washington Elementary School. Her music teacher was Bev Hoyt. She sang in the school choir at a younger age than the others. In the fourth grade, she began the violin and eventually played with the Wenatchee High Orchestra under Mike Lee. She was concertmaster for a while and received a plaque as the most inspirational orchestra member. Alison had a very creative and talented mind, using almost every form of artistic communication. She drew, sculpted, wrote music, and acted in plays at Orchard Junior High and Wenatchee High. Her senior recital was at the Wenatchee Museum. Her teacher was Gretchen Woods. She received a scholarship from Wilfred Woods to attend the Marrowstone Island orchestra camp. Alison loved counseling at Camp Zanika Lache at Lake Wenatchee, WA. She loved teaching crafts and reaching out to the girls in her cabin. Later on, she and the other counselors became lifelong friends. She grew as a confident young woman there. Alison received an academic scholarship at Wenatchee Valley Community College under the teaching of Dick Lapo. She was in his choirs. At that time, Alison played in the Wenatchee Valley Symphony. She played in pit orchestra at the Apple Blossom Festival. She attended Evergreen State College in 1985, and lived in Olympia, WA, where her emphasis was Commedia dell'Arte. She wrote and scored music for the traveling performance group based on sock puppets she created in the third grade. She graduated with a degree in Fine Arts and was hired at the Seattle Children's Theater near the Space Needle. she met many well known people in the fine arts scene. She loved the writers of the books such as Kevin Hankes. She lectured at the Elliot Bay Bookstore and created a hand drawn comic book called "Big Girl". It was at this time, Alison became involved in the Seattle, WA, grunge scene and knew Kurt Cobain and other members of his movement. She especially knew and shared ideas with the feminist singers of this genre. Among them was her friend, Kathleen Hanna, who had a girl's band that opened for Nirvana. Kathleen wrote, "She was a feminist writer who helped create the Riot Grrrl Movement of the 90's. Alison met her husband, Francois Tremblay, online and shared many ideas with him. Franc came to Seattle, for a while and later they moved to Montreal, Quebec, where they married. They were married for 18 years. They moved back to Seattle for a while, when Alison began her podcasts of playing old time music and having open dialogues with those who would talk about religion. She interviewed James Randi and Penn and Teller. She later moved back to Wenatchee, and worked at an apple shed, and later at the Target store. Alison's illnesses lasted more than ten years. She lost her kidneys, had colon surgery at the UW Hospital, was on dialysis, and finally chemotherapy. At the end, she had a brain tumor that ended her life. She is survived by her husband, Francois Tremblay of Montreal, Quebec, Canada; parents, Chuck and Shirley Randall of Wenatchee, WA; brother, Douglas Randall of Wenatchee, WA; and many cousins, aunts, and uncles. A special thanks for her college roommate, Kathleen Hanna who shared life at Evergreen. Kathleen flew up from Pasadena, CA, to spend time being with Alison and sharing memories. She help care for her up to her death. Donations, in lieu of flowers, should go to "The Freedom From Religion Foundation". A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
