Alta M Conner

Alta Conner was born to Willis and Ella Heath of Twisp, WA on January 14, 1922. The second eldest of ten children, Alta helped to raise and nurture her siblings until her graduation from Okanogan High School in 1940. Shortly after graduating, she moved to Portland, OR, where she attended Bible College for two years. She worked in a local laundry until she met and married La Vern Conner in 1950. In 1957, the family moved to Fruitland, ID, where she lived as a mother and homemaker. The family moved to Quincy, WA in 1963. After a long battle with cancer, she passed away in the Quincy Hospital on February 24, 2011. Mom had a gentle sense of humor and a sweet smile. We would tease her just to see that smile. She loved to be teased. Mom would sometimes hum to herself, as she worked around the house, in a quiet, crackly voice. When she was younger, she made bread and cinnamon rolls. Not just any cinnamon rolls, but the best ones in the world. Mom collected and loved dolls. She was fascinated by the craftsmanship and the art that went into making them, and she would say, "Look. Look at how they did the eyes!" or "Look at those tiny little fingers." She would try to get us to see things through her eyes, which were always a little innocent and filled with a young person's wonder. Mom was a church-loving woman and she knew how to pray. She was never loud, boisterous, or long winded. She prayed quietly and privately, humbly and with respect. She was never a person to give out a lot of hugs or compliments. She only saw the good in people; she rarely saw the bad. She hated Winter. She was afraid to travel when snow covered the roads. Mom loved and she is loved. Alta is survived by her husband, La Vern Conner: her children, Larry Conner, Marcine Hutchins, Delores Conner and Karla (Conner) Thompson; her brothers; Carl Heath and Douglas Heath; her sisters, Roberta Larson and Doris Schaadt; 17 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Willis and Ella Heath; and five brothers, Howard Heath, Lyle "Jack" Heath, Vernon Heath, Rodney Heath and Gail Heath. The Funeral Services will be held at the Church of the Nazarene in Quincy on Saturday, March 5, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. Food will be served at the church following the Service. Please make any memorial donations to the Quincy Church of the Nazarene, or the charity of your choice. Arrangements by Telford's Chapel of the Valley, East Wenatchee.
