Alvin Bailes

Alvin Louis Bailes, much loved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, entered eternal life when he passed away peacefully at his home in East Wenatchee, WA, on October 31, 2023, at the age of 93. Alvin was born on November 16, 1929, in Chicago, IL, to Thomas and Bernice (Evans) Bailes. The family relocated to Oklahoma, where Alvin and his brothers, the late Bill Bailes and the late Elmo Bailes, spent their youth. He moved to Wenatchee, WA, in the late 1940s. In 1947, Alvin met his sweetheart and wife of 68 years, the late Shirley (Carey) Bailes. They were married on November 19, 1949, and had five children: the late Karen Webster (Clifford) of Seattle, WA, Donald (Janiece) of Wenatchee, WA, Richard of North Dakota, and twins Janette and Janene, who passed away soon after birth. After moving with their young family to Auburn, WA, where Alvin worked for Boeing and later in Fallon, NV, Alvin and Shirley settled in Wenatchee, where they lived for more than 60 years. Alvin was a truck driver; first for Wenatchee Fuel, followed by a long career at Wells and Wade Fruit, before finishing his career at Simplot & Nestles. Alvin loved to drive trucks and always had a story from his years on the road around the country. In recent years, Alvin and Shirley enjoyed their retirement together until Shirley’s death in 2018, gathering with family and spending winters in Yuma, AZ. Alvin was a man of integrity. His word was his bond. He was a person you could rely on. Alvin was always willing to lend a hand to anyone who needed help, and he always did so with a smile, a joke or two, and a story. There wasn’t really a house, car, or gadget he couldn’t figure out away to fix. In his later years, Alvin was a rock for his wife, Shirley, tenderly caring for her and protecting her as her health declined. Alvin is survived by his sons, Donald and Richard; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren, and many family members in Washington, Nevada, and North Carolina, and in Spain. He was preceded in death by his wife, his three daughters, and his brothers. A Celebration of Life will take place on Friday, November 17, 2023, at 10 am Evergreen Memorial Park, 1301 10th St NE, East Wenatchee, WA. Reception to follow at the Hilton Garden Inn, 25 N Worthen St., Wenatchee, WA. Arrangements are by Chapel of the Valley, East Wenatchee, WA.
