Betty Gwin-Woolett

Betty Louise Gwin Woolett was born September 30, 1937, to Albert and Opal Gwin in Sparta, Missouri. She was raised by her paternal grandparents from the time she was nine years old and her brother, Jack, was six years old. Betty married Henry Byrd Wood in 1958. Betty had three children, Paul A. Wood (passed in June of 2021), Tayna Clarke (San Juan Island, WA), and Hal Brian (passed in 2003), and many step-children; Pat Gagneau (passed in June 2025). Peg McKerlie (Wenatchee, WA), Paul W. Wood (Oregon), Phillip Wood (passed in 2019), Phyllis Barnes (Port Townsend, WA), Pam Wood (Tonasket, WA), Priscilla Kennedy (Las Vegas, NV). Throughout the years, Betty's family grew as the children grew up, married and started their own families. Betty has many grandchildren and great grand children from Washington to New York State. Betty graduated high school in 1955 in Missouri and moved to WA state to find her mom. She pursued education her whole life, while raising a houseful of children. She graduated in 1964 from LPN training with a 4.0 and as the head of her class. Betty worked at St. Anothony's Hospital on the night shift for ten years, in the delivery ward. Betty went onto become an RN and headed to New York state to study in the Geriatric Nurse Practitioner Program. Betty returned to Washington and married Michael Woolett, May 8, 1980. She obtained a MS degree in Psychiatric Nursing from Eastern Washington University. Betty and Michael opened an adult care family home in Wenatchee. Eventually ill health for the couple meant the could no longer work. Betty was very fortunate to have many family members and friends throughout her lifetime. Two women that were dear to her were Shirley Tyrell (passed) and Sue North for decades. A Memorial Service for Betty will be held Sunday, July 6, 2025, 11:00 am at Hydro Park in East Wenatchee. Friends and family are welcome to join us.
