Carol Norton

Carol J. Norton passed away and went to her Father and Savior on March 26, 2019, with her son, daughter and daughter-in-law at her side. Mom was born October 20, 1922 in Wilbur, Washington to Carl V. Jensen and Helen E. Jensen. She attended schools in Amira, Washington. After completing high school, she went on to attend Washington State University and graduated with a business degree in 1944. She was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority, Spur and National editor of Spurs. She was the Secretary of the WSU student body and she was also crowned WSU's May Queen. Also, in 1973, she was nominated as WSU Mother of the year. She married James "Bev" Norton in 1946 in Waterville, WA. After corresponding together during the war, they married and lived in Waterville for a time, then moved to Wenatchee. They were married until Bev's death in 1982. They spent many summers traveling with the Wenatchee Youth Circus and enjoyed an annual pilgrimage to Maui until dad's passing, where mom continued the tradition of meeting all of their close friends there. Carol was a very active member of the community. She was the Executive Secretary of the Wenatchee Rotary Club for 43 years starting in 1967, receiving many awards and recognitions. She worked for the Chamber of Commerce, Wenatchee Wenoka Growers Association and had her own business office at home for an insurance business. She was in Wenatchee Hospital Guild, Chairman of the 1964 Follies, Orthopedic I, Chapter CC PEO. She served on the Central Washington Hospital Board of Directors for 20 years and was a recipient of the "Spirit of A.Z. Wells" award in 1998. She was a very active member of the First United Methodist Church, where she was always a member of their choir. She was an avid fan of WSU football, Seattle Mariners and in the summer you could always find her at the Wenatchee Apple Sox games. Carol was preceded in death by her husband, Bev, in 1982, by a daughter, Mardell McDonald in 1997 and a son-in-law, Donald Babst in 2016. She is survived by a son, Curtis B. Norton and wife, Patricia A. Norton; a daughter, Julie K. Babst, and son-in-law, Jamie McDonald; grandchildren, Brad Norton (Julie), Ryan Norton (Leigh), Sean Babst (Danielle), Tim Babst, Jeff McDonald (Allison) and Jennifer McDonald. She also has 9 great-grandchildren. Memorials may be sent to the First United Methodist Church and/or to the Wenatchee Downtown Rotary Club. Services will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 941 Washington St, Wenatchee, on Friday, April 5, 2019 at 3:00 in the afternoon, with a reception to follow at the church. There will be a private family burial Monday, April 8, 2019. Arrangements are by Chapel of the Valley, Wenatchee.
