Carol June Wilkowski

Carol J. Abair Corrigan Loken Wilkowski 1931 - 2013 Carol Wilkowski, 82, of Wenatchee died July 28, 2013 at home after an extended illness. Born May 3, 1931 to Marie Monda Abair and Reuben "Bub" Abair she was the fourth of six children. She grew up in Wenatchee, Pateros, Brewster and wherever Bub's railroad job took the family. The family then settled in Monitor where they had an apple orchard. Carol graduated from Wenatchee High School Class of 1949. She was a stay-at-home mom for many years but in the fall would work packing apples. Later she worked full time as a meat wrapper at local grocery stores. Carol's true passion was her love and gift of music. She loved to sing, play the piano, and compose songs. She did this, despite the fact that she had no formal music or piano instruction. Many of her compositions were performed by school and community vocal and instrumental groups. Fishing at Fish Lake and Conconully Lake were always a highlight. Later in her life Carol took up water color painting which she greatly enjoyed. In 1950 she married John P. Corrigan. They were married 19 years and had five children. In 1973 Carol and Larry Loken were married and enjoyed 30 years together. Ernie Wilkowski came into her life in 2004 and after a whirlwind romance they were married. Ernie introduced Carol to "snow birding" in Arizona. As a lifelong resident of the Wenatchee Valley area Carol was more than a little reluctant to try this new adventure. To her great surprise she absolutely fell in love with the warm weather, great camaraderie, and sights of the Southwest. Carol is survived by husband Ernie; children Dan Corrigan (Linda) of Murray, UT; Rose Corrigan Owens (Tim) of Tacoma, WA; Chris Corrigan (Heidi) of Redding, CA; Vince Corrigan of Edmonds, WA; and Janet Corrigan Williams (Dennis) of Vashon, WA; 15 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, sister Janet Abair Smith (Dave) of Wenatchee, WA, brother Dennis Abair (Ruth) of Gordonville, TX, cousin Patricia Abair Eastman Sexton, of Wenatchee and numerous nieces and nephews. Proceeded in death by her parents, former husbands John Corrigan and Larry Loken, brother Edward Joseph (Father Christopher Abair, OSB), sisters Jean Abair Trimble King, and Elizabeth Abair Cozart Allen. Carol's children and the Abair family would like to offer a special thank you to Ernie Wilkowski for his devotion and loving care of our mom and sister. There will be no funeral at Carol's request. Graveside services will be 2:00 pm Friday, August 16, 2013 at the Wenatchee Cemetery. A celebration of Carol's life will immediately follow at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Kuykendall Hall, 625 Elliott Ave. S, Wenatchee.
