Charles Lloyd Wallace

Charles Wallace passed away peacefully at home with his wife and daughters at his side on March 5th, 2022, after a short battle with cancer. He was born in Colorado to Marvin and Lena Wallace, joining two sisters, Betty, and Sunny. After his mother's death shortly before his 2nd birthday, the family moved around and eventually settled in Oregon. After Charles graduated from high school, he continued his education at a technical school, earning a certificate in telecommunications engineering. Charles began his work life with Union Pacific Railroad and later at GTE, where he would finish out his career and meet the love of his life, Carolyn. They were married in 1970 with Charles becoming a loving father to Carolyn's two young daughters, Loree and Valerie. A few years later, another daughter, Holly, completed the family. After falling in love with the rugged beauty of Eastern Oregon, the family made their home in La Grande. When he retired from GTE in the 1990s, he stepped out in faith, starting his own telecommunications business serving clients in Oregon, Washington, and Idaho. Family time was often spent exploring all that Eastern Oregon had to offer. Most summer weekends found the family enjoying the outdoors: camping, fishing, and river rafting. Charles was an avid hunter, and his hunting buddies became some of his closest and most treasured friends. In the late 1970s, Charles gave his heart to Jesus and continued his walk as a faithful Christian for the rest of his life. He served in numerous ways in the churches he attended as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, Bible study leader, and greeter, among many other supporting roles. He sought to share his faith with everyone he met, even during the week he spent in the hospital before his death. Charles was a family man and loved his family fiercely. He made a point to pray for each family member daily. He loved family gatherings and would often have a grandchild, or later, a great-grandchild bouncing on his knee. In 2014, Charles and Carolyn moved to Wenatchee, Washington to be near family. After leaving their precious, longtime First Baptist Church home in La Grande, they were warmly welcomed into the church family at Eastmont Baptist Church and have been blessed with deep and meaningful friendships and much support and love in Charlie's final days. Charles was preceded in death by his parents and beloved sisters. He is survived by his wife Carolyn and their three daughters: Loree DeBoer and her husband Nathan, Valerie Curalli and her husband John, and Holly McPhetridge and her husband Russell; 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. A celebration of life will be held at Eastmont Baptist Church, East Wenatchee, WA at 1pm on Saturday, April 2, 2022. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to Eastmont Baptist Church 400 S Kentucky Ave, East Wenatchee, WA 98802 or Lighthouse Christian Ministries 410 S Columbia Street, Wenatchee, WA 98801.
