Christine F. McCurry

~Chris McCurry, long-time resident of Wenatchee, WA, passed away October 18, 2015, at Highgate Senior Living in Wenatchee, at the age of 97. She was born May 17, 1918, in Wenatchee, to Donald and Frances Nettie Arbogast. Chris grew up in Waterville, WA and was the first of three children. She had a brother, Donald, and sister, Gertrude. While she was in high school, she worked for the Telephone Company of Waterville. Chris graduated from Waterville High School in 1937. Chris met the love of her life, Lawrence McCurry, while they were both working at Woolworth's in Wenatchee. Lawrence was drafted into the Army and was sent to Fort Callan, CA for training. Chris traveled by train to Fort Callan and went to work for the PX. Lawrence and Chris were married July 25, 1942, at Fort Callan and then they traveled to San Diego for their honeymoon. While Lawrence was in the army, they lived in Paris, TX. Chris worked at the Seattle Port Of Embarkation while Lawrence was stationed overseas. At the end of WWII, they returned to Wenatchee, where Lawrence worked at JC Penney's and then he went to work for Continental Baking Co., from which he retired. Chris was one of a group of people who helped establish an animal shelter, which later became the Wenatchee Valley Humane Society. Chris worked as a receptionist for the physical therapy department at the Deaconess Hospital in Wenatchee. She loved helping all the patients with their specific needs and really enjoyed her time there. Chris was artistic and loved making handmade special cards for family and friends. Chris and Lawrence bought The Barn, in East Wenatchee, in 1963. They had many wonderful years square dancing with the Appleland Promenaders, and traveling with their friends in the Good Sam's club. After retirement, they spent the winters in Florence, AZ at Florence Gardens, where they enjoyed their friends and activities. For the past five years, Chris lived at the Colonial Vista Retirement facility, where she had many special friends and enjoyed socializing, playing games, and arts and crafts. Chris was a member of The First United Methodist Church and Saddlerock Evangelical Presbyterian Church. ~She leaves behind her son, Steven McCurry of Wenatchee, WA; her daughter, Diana McCurry of Tucson, AZ; her grandson, Steven McCurry Jr. and his partner, Rachel Davis of Wenatchee,WA; great-granddaughter, Lauren McCurry of Wenatchee, WA; special friends, Lisa Lucas of New Jersey, and Renae and Don Lau of Wenatchee, WA. Chris was preceded in death by her parents, sister, brother, and her beloved husband of 54 years, Lawrence, who passed June 6, 1996. ~She will be laid to rest with Lawrence in the Wenatchee City Cemetery. Telford's Chapel of the Valley is in charge of arrangements, and per her wishes, there will be no service.
