Cleo Yost

Cleo Rae Yost, 88, beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, businesswoman, and friend, was called home to heaven on July 16, 2018, surrounded by her family. Cleo was born on September 7, 1929, to Hugh and Ina Henderson in Bishop, CA. Tragedy struck at an early age when Cleo's family died in 1933 due to medical complications. Cleo grew up in Bishop, went on to graduate from Bishop High School, and worked as a telephone operator and waitress. She traveled to Alaska looking for adventure and found it instead, in Lewiston, MT, where she met Gene Yost. The two married on May 11, 1952, and followed Gene's career to Grand Forks, ND, Gainesville FL, and finally settling in Wenatchee, WA. Cleo loved people and loved being involved. She was a savvy businesswoman who built a Tupperware empire in North Central Washington. Cleo was known as "the Tupperware lady" for over 50 years. Cleo was very involved and devoted to her church, chairing and serving on committees, and acting as the official Sunday greeter. She also ran for a position on the local school board and was an active member of the Lady Lions. She loved music and taught herself to play piano and organ, becoming skilled enough to play for church services and events. She enjoyed singing and was a member of the church choir for several years. Music was a constant part of the household. Cleo enjoyed traveling and visited nearly all 50 states. She also traveled internationally to England, Honduras, and the Dominican Republic. Most of all, Cleo loved her family. She devoted herself to raising her children and stayed active in their lives. She loved all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and never missed celebrating a birthday or anniversary. Cleo was forever young at heart and preferred to be called "a grandma who's great" instead of "great-grandma". Having a love of life, Cleo enjoyed reaching out to others with a cheery greeting, a funny line or two, and a bright smile. Cleo was preceded in death by her father, mother, and step-father. She is survived by her beloved husband of 66 years, Gene Yost; sister, Marylou Cox; brother, Elvie Henderson; son, Robert Yost; daughters: Lynda Malone, Kathy Richmond, Gail Kabrich, and Carol Diede; and by 15 grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. A Celebration of her Life will be held on Saturday, August 4, 2018, at 1:00 p.m., at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 312 Palouse St., Wenatchee, WA. Memorials may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran School. Arrangements are by Chapel of the Valley, Wenatchee, WA.
