Duane Ferry

Duane Dean Ferry, age 64, passed away April 9th 2023 from a brief illness. Duane was born March 18th, 1959 in Wenatchee Washington to David and Ornetta Ferry. He grew up in Chewelah, Newport and Peshastin Washington, attending Leavenworth High School. Times were tough in Duane’s youth and he learned early on that hard work was the remedy for bringing happiness to himself and his family. Duane served 3 years in the US Army and was stationed in Germany. He also spent 3 years in the US Army Reserve. Duane was literally born to be a mountain man who reveled in the outdoors. He worked much of his life as a logger and in the Apple and pear orchards of the Wenatchee river valley. Even through hard times and great difficulties, Duane persevered through with his rock solid work ethic. This mountain man always found time to share his passion for the outdoors with others. Duane enjoyed many, many happy hunting and fishing trips with his four brothers, grandsons and nephews. From mushroom hunting to just long drives on old dirt roads. He knew how to enjoy the best things in life. He was just as eager to play in the mountains as he was to work in them. Duane was always a very generous man and would give anyone the shirt off his back if they were in need, regardless of his own situation. Even when things got tough in life, he was always there to lend a hand and provide support to those he loved. His heart was larger than the majestic mountains he loved so dearly. Duane was preceded in death by his father David L. Ferry Sr., sister Debbie Ferry and his granddaughter Brianna L. Pierce. Duane is survived by his loving mother, Ornetta, his beautiful daughter Ashley (Richard) Dodrill, stepchildren Cheryl (Josh) Hartwell, Danny (Erin) Cahoon, sisters Cheryl Kurtz and Lucy (Andrew) Lemons, his brothers Dave (Laurie) Ferry, John Ferry, Jason Ferry, Chan (Becky) Ferry, Grandsons Richard Thomas, Brandon Pierce and Zacheriah Dean, along with many nieces and nephews. Duane’s resilient and indomitable spirit, enormous loving heart and contagious laugh will be greatly missed. “The mountains are calling and I must go.” -John Muir
