Edna Anderson

Edna Mae (Wise) Anderson, 107, passed peacefully on Tuesday, November 11, 2025. Edna was born to Edith (Story) and Fred A. Wise, on August 1918 on a homestead in Union Valley, Chelan. At a young age, the family moved to Manson. She was the seventh in a family of nine children. Hard work was central to her upbringing on the farm and became a value that contributed to her success in living a satisfying life. In 1936, Edna was named Manson Apple Blossom Queen. Her sister Raynell had been named Manson Queen three years earlier, and her sister, Bertha, followed in 1938. In 1937, she married Wayne Anderson of Leavenworth. They lived in Wenatchee, Okanogan and Chelan where they raised their four children. Edna was a cosmetic clerk at Green’s Drug in Chelan for several years, and while living in Wenatchee, she worked as a cosmetic clerk at Claussen’s Drug. When Wayne retired from the City of Wenatchee Building Department, they made a move to Leavenworth and purchased a large pear orchard up on Ski Hill Loop. Edna bought the “Little Shop” and over the years it became a very popular kitchen and gift store. She was quite a talented purveyor and truly cared to create a great experience in her shop. Her strong sense of personal taste and style was evident in her shop and style of dress. She was always well-presented. First and foremost in Edna’s life was family, but she was a well-rounded person with varying interests. Edna enjoyed playing bridge for nearly her whole life. She never missed the news nor Jeopardy. She enjoyed embroidering t-towels for friends, family, and Hilfrich Hausfreuns. She loved the family dinners she created, always set with her best dishes and cloth napkins, her home full of her children, grandchildren, and in-laws. Always present were amazing pickles! She found her favorite sweet pickle recipe in 1954, and it is still being made in the family today. A much-loved tradition was her family's chili dinner on Christmas Eve. She decorated her home beautifully and had a theme each year for her tree. Gardening, being curious (but minding her own business, she would say), eating well, good habits, and walking kept her feeling young and looking radiant. Edna was a very independent lady and drove her car until she was 98. She was a loyal Mariners fan and attended a game on her 100th birthday where she was celebrated on the big screen, much to her delight (and maybe a little embarrassment; she didn’t like to be the center of attention). She moved to Mountain Meadows in Leavenworth with her cat Rita in July 2019, right before her 101st birthday. She enjoyed the new friendships she made with the wonderful staff there. She remained in good health her entire life. Edna was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne, in 1994, four days after their 57th anniversary. Also preceding her were brothers, Lester, John, Nyle, and sisters Alta, Laura, Raynell, Maymie and Bertha, and great-grandson Tripp Anderson. She is survived by daughters Cheryl Wood of Cashmere, Lynelle Langston of Casper, Wyoming, son John Anderson of Leavenworth, son Ron Anderson of Quincy, 7 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. The family wishes to express tremendous thanks for the care and attention Edna received from the wonderful staff at Mountain Meadows for the last 6 years and the nurses of Confluence Hospice for her final two weeks. There was a private family burial per Edna’s wishes. The family suggests donations to the Wenatchee Valley Humane Society or the charity of your choice in her name.
