Edna Mills Brown

Edna (Mills) Brown passed away December 8, 2011. She was born April 25, 1923, in Wenatchee, WA to George "Mort" Mills and Bertha (Whitwood) Mills, early settlers in Mills Canyon in the Entiat Valley. Her mother died the day after her birth and she was cared for by a neighbor, Mary Buchanan, her second mom. At the age of six, she moved with her dad into the town of Entiat, where she spent her school years, graduating from Entiat High School in 1941. She met Rollie Brown in Entiat and they were married in 1942. They lived in Wichita, KS during World War II and then moved back to Washington, settling in East Wenatchee, where she lived for 65 years. The family included daughter, Linda and sons, Jim and Randy. Edna packed apples for several years, but was primarily a wonderful wife and mother. After the kids were raised, she and Rollie went on many trips with their camping trailer, fishing in local lakes and trips to the southwest in winter. They especially liked to visit Rollie's family in Kansas and their son, Randy and family in Bend, OR. They also went on trips to Hawaii, Alaska and Europe. They were active members of Cornerstone Christian Church and square dance groups for over 50 years, until Rollie passed away in 2000. Edna spent 11 years at East Wenatchee Assisted Living, where she had many good friendships with residents and staff. Her blindness didn't keep her from the many activities that she enjoyed and she was an inspiration to others with her positive attitude. The last two months, she resided at Avalon Adult Family Home, where she received wonderful, loving care. Edna is united in Heaven with her husband, Rollie; and her sons, Jim and Randy. She will be greatly missed by her daughter, Linda and son-in-law, Norm Kuntz; daughter-in-law, Bonnie Brown; grandchildren, Stephanie Brown, Lindsey (Adam) Trowbridge, Kolette (Rob) O'Keefe, Kristin (Erik) Dodge and Kent (Debbie) Kuntz; and great-grandchildren, Vail, Jack, Tyler, Emily and Kyle. The family has deep appreciation for the wonderful caregivers at East Wenatchee Assisted Living, Avalon Adult Family Home and the Central Washington Hospital Hospice nurses. Edna was very blessed to have you all in her life. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 30, 2011, at the Cornerstone Christian Church, 12 N. Chelan Avenue in Wenatchee. Memorial contributions may be made to the Kidney Cancer Association, 1988 Momentum Place, Chicago, IL 60689, or Cornerstone Christian Church.
