Irene Morton

Irene Morton February 23, 1926 ~ November 7, 2013 Beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend went to be with Jesus Christ on November 7, 2013. She was born in Locust Grove, AR to Grover and Nora Massey. She had 10 brothers and sisters, which she loved and enjoyed immensely. She had fun playing on the girls school basketball team and going to the Baptist Church. When she was 17, she married Jarrell Barnes. Shortly thereafter, he joined the Army for WWII and she went to Michigan and worked in the factory making shell casings for the war effort. After the war they moved to Orondo, WA and worked in the apple orchards. In a few years, they bought a home and orchard in East Wenatchee. In 1952, their daughter, Jan, was born and in 1954, their son, Terry, was born. In 1957 she attended Okanogan Street Church of Christ where she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and was baptized. In 1958, they bought a large orchard and home in Ellisford, WA. In 1962, they returned to Wenatchee. In 1967 she went to work for Dolco Packaging. She was married to Leo Morton from 1971 to 1978. In 1991 she retired from Dolco. Irene loved playing with her grandchildren, making wonderful family meals, playing pinochle with friends, getting together with her brothers and sisters, traveling, working with her Sisters in Christ in the church kitchen and visiting the elderly. She will be dearly remembered for her love of Christ and family, her delicious homemade pies and cakes and her grandchildren's Christmas stockings! Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Jan and Glen Widener of Wenatchee; son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Wendy Barnes of East Wenatchee; granddaughter, Shelly Story (Jeff) of Cashmere; grandson, Rayce Barnes of Tri-Cities; granddaughter, Tenille Barnes of East Wenatchee; and grandson, Aden Barnes of East Wenatchee. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter at birth, Baby Barnes; granddaughter, Ashley Barnes; grandson, Eric Widener; and 10 siblings. Family and friends are invited to her Memorial Service on Monday, November 18, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at King's Orchard Church of Christ; 1610 Orchard St., Wenatchee. Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 16, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Central Washington Hospital Hospice, King's Orchard Church of Christ, American Cancer Society or Alzheimer's Foundation. Arrangements are by Telford's Chapel of the Valley, East Wenatchee.
