Iris Majel Moore

Surrounded by her loving family, Iris Moore went home to finally turn her eyes upon Jesus on Tuesday, January 9, 2018. Iris Majel (Hopkins) Moore was born to Robert and Arlie Hopkins on April 6, 1921, in Weston, OR. She was the second of four children born to a hard-working farming family. Her brother, Wayne, was four years older and her brother, Wendell, was four years younger. Iris was eight years old when she finally got her baby sister, Phyllis. She loved her siblings with all her heart. She enjoyed life on the farm, learning everything from milking cows to raising chickens to planting, reaping, and preserving a garden. She became an accomplished seamstress out of necessity. Iris loved school so much that she passed two grades in one year! She attended Palouse High School and graduated in 1938. She was a proud member of the girls' basketball team. After high school, she went on to graduate from Keating Secretarial College in Spokane, WA, and went to work at Wallace Pea and Grain Company. During World War II, things changed for everyone. Iris's brother, Wendell, met and fell in love with, and married, a young woman named Lucile, who happened to have a brother named Byron. When Byron came home after the war and his service in the Navy, guess who fell in love? Yes, Byron and Iris! They were married in 1947 and were married for over 60, years before Byron passed away. Iris was a homemaker during their early married years and raised two children, Sheri and Mike. Iris worked as a legal secretary in Colfax, WA, and then at McGregor Land and Livestock in Hooper, WA, as a bookkeeper. After moving to Wenatchee, WA, in 1959, she was a legal secretary in the Chelan County Prosecutor's Office and then, in private practice, for Jim Lynch. She got back to her first love of bookkeeping at the Chelan County Auditor's Office, and retired after a long career as a deputy auditor. Through all her life, Iris had a special love that grew strong as the years went by, the love for her Saviour, Jesus Christ. She became a Christian as a young teenager and served Him the rest of her life. She served many years singing in the church choir and also taught Sunday School. She hosted Good News Club in the home when her children were young, and she and Byron loved being foster parents for a time. She was a long-time member of Wenatchee Valley Baptist Church, and in later years, was a member of Eastmont Baptist Church. Iris was a shining example of a Christian mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and had just begun to shine her light for her great-great- grandchildren. She is survived by her sister, Phyllis (Leonard) Skeens of Issaquah, WA; daughter, Sheri Travis of Cashmere, WA; son, Mike (Leslie) Moore of East Wenatchee, WA; grandchildren: Sari (Johnny) Matkins, Katie (Jeffrey) Michael, Jenny (Bryon) Nieman, Timothy (Lindsey) Moore, Leslee (Jeff) Fielder, Adam (Bernida) Chapman, John Chapman (Cameron Fay); great-grandchildren: Adrienne West, Elizabeth Martin, Jacob Toulou, Ethan Visser, Cody Nieman, Emily Toulou, Gracie Nieman, Ashlyn Moore, Carson Moore, Katherine Davis, Ellie Cook, Jacob Fielder, Nolan Fielder; great-great-grandchildren: Sawyer West and Addison Cook; as well as many loved nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and two brothers. Viewing will be held on Friday, January 12, 2018, from 1:00-4:00 p.m., at Chapel of the Valley, 302 Ninth St., Wenatchee, WA. A Memorial Service will be on Saturday, January 13, 2018, at 11:00 a.m., at Eastmont Baptist Church, 400 S. Kentucky, East Wenatchee, WA.
