Irving Cohen DDS, PS

Irving I Cohen, DDS, PS, passed away unexpectedly on December 7, 2024. He was born in Brooklyn, NY, to parents Jack and Rose Cohen. Irving was a graduate of Brooklyn College, Columbia University School of Dentistry, and the University of Washington School of Dentistry Periodontal Program. He was a proud United States Air Force Veteran. Irving was a member of the Alpha Omega Fraternity, the AAP, and the Washington Dental Association. During his early career, Irving taught at the University of Washington School of Dentistry. He had great pride in being the creator of The Liquid Sunshine Study Club. Irving was filled with passion for Dentistry. He practiced Dentistry for 40+ years. Irving maintained his primary Periodontal Practice in downtown Seattle and satellite offices in Redmond and Bellevue. Both Irving and his wife, Suzanne, loved dentistry and helping others. They met in dentistry and continued to grow his practice together, sharing in their passion to not only care for their patients, but also their referring doctors and their staff. Irving was blessed with wonderful patients and several caring staff members during his years practicing. Prior to and during retirement, Irving continued to participate in Dental Continuing Education, golfing with his wife and buddies, photography, writing short stories, and spending time with his dogs in Eastern Washington’s beauty. For years, Irving and Suzanne enjoyed contributing to the Arts in Seattle, including season tickets to the Seattle Repertory Theater and the ACT Theater. The SAM was a favorite. They enjoyed contributing to PBS and NW Harvest. Suzanne’s love of sports was contagious, and they enjoyed cheering on their local teams together. They supported both the Seattle Mariners and the Seattle Super Sonics as ticket holders. Later in life, they took up art classes together at Gage in Seattle. He was full of artistic talent and excelled in figure drawing, sculpting, pastels, and oil painting. Irving lived his life to the fullest. He had an uncanny ability to never mess up a joke. He loved making people laugh and smile. His knowledge was vast, and his talents were far too numerous to list. He prided himself on lending an ear or assistance to anyone in need. He genuinely wanted to leave the earth a better place than he was born into. Everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him, being in his care, sharing time with him, or loving him will greatly miss this “Gentle Giant” for the rest of their lives. Irving was survived by his wife, Suzanne Cohen, daughter Michelle Cohen, son Joshua Cohen (Heather), two siblings, a niece, and two nephews. Per Irving’s request, he did not want a burial or funeral proceedings. He wanted people to raise a glass in a toast to their favorite memory with him.
