James Arneil

James Arneil passed away on May 21st in his home under the loving care of his family and with the great help of caregivers, including hospice. Born in Prince Rupert BC in 1914, he spent most of his life in Wenatchee. He is survived by his wife Kathleen "Kay" O'Connor Arneil; children, Ann (Dave) Sonn and Peter (Sharmon) Arneil; grandchildren Geoff, Shannon, Laura, Kevin and Solyssa; seven nieces and nephews, and a great grandchild due in October. Jim made many contributions to his country and the local community through his work, both professional and personal. He graduated from University of Washington Law School in 1939 and then served as a special agent in the FBI and Lieutenant JG in the US Navy. He contributed immensely to the community through his legal practice in Wenatchee, including service as Deputy Prosecutor for Chelan County. Locally, he supported many efforts, from serving on the Board of GTE to providing legal counsel during the founding of the Wenatchee Boat Club. He was an active Rotarian, an Applearian, and a founding member and first president of the Wenatchee Junior Chamber of Commerce. He contributed to the orchard heritage of the state through his work in the apple industry as an owner and as legal counsel for the Washington Apple Commission. Throughout his life, he shared his love of adventure through boating with his family. Later, he and his devoted "first mate" Kay, sailed extensively for more than 20 years into their retirement. They were members of the Seattle and Port Ludlow Yacht Clubs, Cruising Club of America and the Wenatchee Golf & Country Club. As a professional, he was meticulous and astute with an unyielding ethical code. As a family man, he was ever- devoted to his life-long love, Kay, and to his children and grandchildren. Jim, we will miss you! You will forever be the King of our Jungle. Our thanks to Dr. Rutherford and the team of doctors who helped us through the difficult last year, and the fabulous caregivers: Budd, Sierra, Wendy, and especially Theresa, and the services of the Central Washington Hospice team. Memorials can be sent to Central Washington Hospice, St. Joseph Catholic School, and the Wenatchee Valley College Foundation. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin with the recitement of the Rosary at 7:00 PM Wednesday, May 26, 2010 with the Funeral Mass beginning at 10:30 AM Thursday, May 27, 2010 at Holy Apostles Catholic Church, East Wenatchee. A graveside committal service will follow at Wenatchee City Cemetery as well as a reception at the Wenatchee Golf and Country Club, East Wenatchee, WA.
