James Allen Boydstun

James Allen Boydstun, MD James Allen Boydstun, of Chelan Washington and Fair Oaks Ranch Texas passed away August 1 in Chelan WA. He was born September 13, 1940 in Larue Arkansas. He is a graduate of Rogers High School, the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Arkansas, and the University Of Arkansas School Of Medicine in Little Rock. He did his internship at Menorah Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri followed by a three year psychiatric residency at Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center, San Antonio, Texas, and the Aerospace Primary Course at Brooks AFB, Texas. He proudly served twenty years in the US Air Force with assignments in Torrejon Spain, The School of Aerospace Medicine at Brooks AFB in San Antonio Texas, Fairchild AFB, WA, and Andrews AFB Headquarters System Command. He served as a psychiatrist, flight surgeon and commander. Some of his jobs included being in charge of psychiatric evaluations of the repatriated Prisoners of War from Vietnam, Hospital Commander at Fairchild AFB, Vice Commander of the School of Aerospace Medicine, and Deputy Command Surgeon of AF Systems Command in Washington, DC. After twenty years of active duty he retired from the military as a full Colonel in July, 1985, earning several military awards, including the Legion of Merit. He was a consultant to the Air Force Surgeon General, an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Texas' Health Sciences and at Bethesda Naval Hospital. He was an associate member of the Aerospace Medical Association, a fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, a charter member of the Society of USAF Psychiatrists, a member of Sigma Xi Scientific Society, and a member of the College of Forensic Examiners. He had numerous publications in professional journals and textbooks. After his retirement from the military, he moved to Chelan, WA, working at Lake Chelan Community Hospital, Chelan Douglas Mental Health, as a consultant to the Department of Labor and Industries, and had a psychiatric private practice in Chelan and East Wenatchee. In 2000 he retired a second time, but continued to do locum tenums work in Arkansas and Idaho, as well as independent medical exams. He was active for several years with the Masonic Lodge in Chelan, serving twice as Master of the Lodge. He was more recently a member of the Kendall Masonic Lodge in Boerne, Texas. He and his wife Shelley divided the last three years between Chelan and Fair Oaks Ranch Texas. His hobbies included golfing, bird hunting, fishing and reading. He is survived by his wife of forty five years, Shelley Hudson Boydstun, son Barry A. Boydstun and wife Huong of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, daughter Wendy Martinson of Cashmere, WA, and four grandchildren, Christian, Aleea, Ashley and Jason. Memorial Services will be held at North Shore Bible Church on Saturday, August 6 at 1 pm. Memorials may be sent to North Shore Bible Church in Manson, Washington; Cibolo Creek Community Church in Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas or the Air Force Association.
