James Douglas Franklin

James "Jim" Douglas Franklin, age 81, of East Wenatchee, WA passed away peacefully, on Tuesday, April 5, 2016. He was born on April 24, 1934 to Charles and Helen Franklin in Wenatchee, WA. Jim graduated from Wenatchee High School in 1952, where he was a member of the track team, ran cross country, was captain of the ski team, ski jumped downhill and slalom skied. In 1956, he graduated from the University of Washington and in that same year, received a commission in the U.S. Navy. Jim went to flight school in Pensacola, FL and advanced flight school in Hutchinson, KS and was then stationed in Okinawa, Japan. He was with Patrol Squadron Four flying PTV's. In 1955, he married his high school sweetheart, LaRue Hysong, and has four children: Cari, Mark, Brad and Denise. After discharge in 1960, he was in weekend warriors. Jim worked for a large CPA firm in Seattle and received his CPA certificate and then returned with his family to Wenatchee in 1961. He became a partner in Franklin, Homchick and Koch CPA firm and then later started his own firm: J.D. Franklin and Associates. Jim was a member of the Elks Club, Wenatchee Golf and Country Club, Lions Club, Past President of Wenatchee North Rotary, member of a glider club and was Washington State Jaycee Treasurer. He enjoyed skiing, boating, golfing, glider flying and had an interest in a Cessna 182. Jim enjoyed ski trips with the family to White Fish, MT and time at Lake Chelan. Motorbike riding, golfing, and scuba diving in Hawaii. He is survived by his wife, LaRue; children: Cari (Jeff) Hart, Mark (Judy) Franklin, Brad Franklin, Denise (Tom) Adair; his brothers, Bob, Chuck and Roy Franklin; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Tom. A Celebration of Jim's life will be held at Telford's Chapel of the Valley, East Wenatchee, WA at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 14, 2016 with a Graveside Service at Wenatchee City Cemetery in Wenatchee, WA. A reception will follow at Trinity United Methodist Church, East Wenatchee, WA. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Wenatchee Valley Humane Society or to the charity of your choice. Arrangements are by Telford's Chapel of the Valley, East Wenatchee, WA.
