Janet Smith

Our beautiful, caring, wonderful wife and mother, Janet Sue Smith, passed peacefully into her heavenly home on October 7, 2023 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Independence, Kansas on July 1,1942, the second child, and first daughter, of Allen and Lucille Harman (Lyon). At four years old, her family moved to Washington State, where they would continue to live, often visiting Kansas to see family members on many fun car trips. Janet spent her early years in Kennewick, WA where she was raised and educated, graduating from Kennewick High School in 1961. Later, she made her home in Quincy where she caught the eye of the love of her life, William Lowell Smith. They were married on October 2, 1964 in Quincy, eventually making their home in the Wenatchee area. Janet worked various jobs throughout her career; however, working at Costco was the most enjoyable due to all the friendships she made while employed there. She retired from Costco in 2008 after 13 years. Janet was blessed with incredible parents, 59 years of marriage to Lowell, 3 beautiful daughters, 8 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, supportive and fun siblings, and many wonderful friends. Janet had a contagious laugh, and her smile lit up the room. Her witty sense of humor stayed with her until the very end. She was the fun Mom, and sincerely enjoyed spending time with her daughters, and their friends as teens. She was a second mom to Darcy, Janice, Melody, Kathleen, Ruthie, Adele, and Jen. Her "daughters" could talk to her about anything. She was wise, and gave great advice. She was a favorite Golden Apple Band Mom, and supported her children in all their endeavors. She loved spending time with her husband, daughters, and their families. Also cherishing her time with her two sisters, JoAnn and Sherry, and their families. Some of her favorite activities were playing games and making Christmas cookies with her grandkids. She also enjoyed being in the audience and on the sidelines as her girls and her grandchildren demonstrated their various talents. Janet was a member of the Wenatchee Church of the Nazarene for many years, where she met her best friend, and sister in Christ, Linda. Janet was a greeter, sang in the choir, and made friendship baskets for new church attendees. Later, she attended Eastmont Community Church where she became a member until she was no longer able to attend. Janet's life was Christ centered. Her strong Christian values and faith were evident in all aspects of her life. She loved studying her Bible, and praying for all those she loved. Janet was preceded in death by her parents, Allen and Lucille Harman; daughter Cynthia and son-in-law Daren Cochran; and brothers Leon and Monty Harman. She is survived by her husband, Lowell; daughters Barb (Kevin) Warnett and Monica (Stacey) Barker; grandchildren Savannah (Brandon) Turner, Bre (Ken) Noonan, Kira (Andrew) Jenson, Colton Smith, Cody Barker, Alexandra Barker, Zachary (Acadia) Barker, and Hunter (Jaysa) Barker; great grandchildren Jaidyn and Everleah Turner, Amber Godfrey, Bryce Hill, Zayd Noonan, Keaton, Kingsley, Alfred, and Alistair Jenson, Emmy, Ryleigh, and Beau Barker, Astrid Gillespie-Barker, and Noah Barker; siblings Bob (Shirley) Harman, JoAnn (Wendell) Smith, and Sherry (Thomas) Hamilton, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. The family would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Bolz and the wonderful nurses on the 5th Floor at CWH for their compassion and care during the most difficult time in our lives. We will honor the life of our beloved wife and mother at noon on Friday, October 13, 2023, at Wenatchee Cemetery. Arrangements are in the care of Chapel of the Valley, East Wenatchee.
