Jessie P. Moore

Jessie P. Moore, of East Wenatchee, WA, was born in Decker Chapel, IN, on October 11, 1933, the daughter of Clifford and Edith Anthis. She died at home, surrounded by her family, on Mother's Day, Sunday, May 9, 2010, following a courageous and fearless battle with cancer. Jessie graduated from Decker Chapel High School in Indiana. She then followed her dreams to Washington State, where she met the love of her life, David Moore, and married him on January 19, 1953, in Moses Lake at Larson Air Force Base. During Dave's Air Force career, the family followed him throughout the United States and Taiwan and retired in East Wenatchee in 1972. Jessie devoted her early marriage years to raising her daughters, but once they were raised, she went to work creating her own business. She created Happy Suckers and Jessie's Cakes, which she operated out of their home, with the help of her loving husband. They spent countless hours building an outstanding business that reaped friends too numerous to count and hours upon hours of work, which they loved. While running a business, Jessie found time to bake and take goodies to her daughters' work on a weekly basis... Jessie was never known as Jessie, but always known as "Mom." During Jessie's cake business years, she became friends with one special family, whom she adopted and they adopted her; Gildo, Sharon, Anthony, Ceci and Raylene Del Rio became Jessie's adopted family. Jessie was President of the Lady Elks, which was a role she immensely enjoyed. She took great pride in the community and representing the Elks in all of their charitable efforts. Jessie and Dave supported the Elks in its entirety. They loved dining and dancing at the Elks. Jessie loved to travel and her most recent and memorable trip was with her two loving daughters to Hawaii. The trip was fabulous and unforgettable... with memories of sitting in Duke's on Waikiki Beach, having dinner watching the sunset! Most recently, Jessie created a strong friendship with the Denny's Restaurant group. It started out as having coffee with friends and then it soon developed into helping out by wrapping silverware, making coffee and bussing tables when necessary. Denny's soon adopted Jessie and she loved being part of the team. Jessie is survived by her daughters, Terri Greer of East Wenatchee and Ruta (Don) Jones of East Wenatchee; two grandsons, Andy Greer and Jody Greer, both of East Wenatchee; one great-granddaughter, Kaylen Greer of East Wenatchee; sister, Mary Thorn of East Wenatchee and Bernice Thoma of Vincennes, IN; brothers, Willard Anthis, Ed (Patricia) Anthis and Eugene Anthis of Vincennes, IN; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, David Moore; her parents, Edith and Clifford Anthis; sisters, Violet Nixon, Alice Carter, Opal Barker, Grace Anthis and Delores Box; brothers, Floyd Anthis and Bill Lee Anthis; and one grandson, Jamie Greer. The family wishes to thank all of our family and friends for the wonderful prayers and support offered during the past weeks. Also, we wish to thank the dedicated staff at Wenatchee Valley Medical Center, Dr. Julie Smith, Katie Kemble, Nurse Kathy and everyone else on the Oncology Staff, Dr. Carlson and the radiation staff, Hospice, Nurses Barb, Trish, Gail, Nicole and Mindy for their dedication and compassion they have shown to Jessie and to the family. Funeral Services will be held at Telford's Chapel of the Valley, 711 Grant Road, East Wenatchee on Monday, May 17, 2010, at 2:00 p.m. Those wishing to, may make a memorial donation in Jessie's name to Cancer Care of NCW. Arrangements are by Telford's Chapel of the Valley.
