John R. Files

John Richard Files Jr. August 26, 1927 ~ August 26, 2014 John Richard Files Jr. left this world on August 26, 2014, after a brave battle with Amyloidosis. He was born on August 26, 1927, to John R. Files, Sr. and Elizabeth (Plough) Files. John began his life on Wenatchee Heights. He attended schools in Wenatchee and served in the United States Navy from August 17, 1945, until his honorable discharge on July 21, 1948. He married the love of his life, Arvella Williams, on August 27, 1949. John and Arvella lived most of their married life on Wenatchee Heights, where they raised their three daughters. Early on, John worked as a concrete finisher on projects such as Rocky Reach Dam. He then became a heavy equipment operator, working at Hale & Long General Contractors, Inc. for most of his career. John and Arvella also were orchardists on Wenatchee Heights for most of their lives, as well as owning several other business ventures. John was a very hard worker and in the evening, after a long day of cherry harvest, was known to dig ditches with his backhoe as his form of relaxation. John was a 70 year member of the Stemilt Hill Grange. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles for many years, where John and Arvella loved to dance. He loved to be out in the woods, whether it be woodcutting or hunting. John is survived by his children, Sheila (Jim) Weed, Denise (Bill) Kuest, and Ladeena (Wes) Childress; grandchildren, Jim Weed, Jr. (Trish), Tim Weed (Mandy), Justin Childress, Josh Childress (Shaylee), and Erinn Kuest; great-grandchildren, Shaylee Weed, Colby Weed and Tyler Weed; brothers, Donald Files, Franklin Files, Ted Files, Pat Files and Mike Files; sisters, Marian Schultz and Susie Campbell; numerous nieces and nephews; and very special friends, Ross and Kelly Reidinger. He was preceded in death by his wife, Arvella; parents, John and Elizabeth Files; sisters, Betty Fulton and Dorothy Sandberg; as well as several nieces and nephews. A Celebration of his Life will be held at Telford's Funeral Home on Friday, September 5, 2014, at 10:00 a.m., with Interment following at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in East Wenatchee. Viewing will be held at Telford's Chapel of the Valley on Thursday, September 4, 2014, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Arrangements are by Telford's Chapel of the Valley, East Wenatchee.
