Joy Arlene Rogers

Joy Rogers, age 80, passed away in Wenatchee on December 17th, 2009. She was born January 15th, 1929 to Frank and Bernice Stierlen in Wenatchee at the family home. She spent her childhood years in Wenatchee and in 1948, married Ted Rogers. After the birth of their first child, they moved to Cobalt, Idaho where Ted was an assayer for the area mines. In 1955, after the death of their second child, and the birth of twins, Ted contracted polio, and the family moved back to the Wenatchee area. In 1956, the family moved to Bickleton, Washington, where Ted worked as the Superintendent of the school district, while Joy worked as a secretary to the school. In 1993, they moved back to the Wenatchee area to be closer to family. Joy was a warm and generous person who had a passion for her artwork. She won many awards for her paintings, and she enjoyed knowing that many of her friends and family proudly hung her work in their homes. Joy was very close to her family and left us with the following words of wisdom. Keep the family together always. Every time you see your children, tell them you love them. Don't keep a grudge. After the death of her husband in 1998, Joy welcomed her very good friend Zane, into her life. They moved to East Wenatchee, where Zane and she enjoyed socializing with their many friends. Joy was a member of the Watercolor Society, the Gals on the Go, and the Mayflower Society. Joy is survived by her significant other, Zane Newton; her children, Kathleen Warren (Chris) of Okanogan, Larry Rogers (Debra) of Kenmore, and Linda Claeson (Skip) of Kennewick, 5 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren; her sisters, Louise Shuss (Dave), Jeanine Arnsburg (Ron); her brothers, Marvin Stierlen (Nelda), and Bob Stierlen (Marty), and Muffy, her dog. She was preceded in death by her husband Ted Rogers and a son, Douglas Rogers. The family would like to thank Hospice of Wenatchee for their generous and compassionate help. A Celebration of Life will be held at Telford's Chapel of the Valley in East Wenatchee at 1:00 pm on December 29th. A reception for family and friends will be held following the celebration at the Sunrise East Recreation Hall, 501 Nahalee, East Wenatchee. (Directions will be provided at Telford's). In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to NCW Community Foundation with an attached note designating the funds for "Inpatient Hospice", and sent to Central Washington Hospice, 1020 N.
