Julie Faith Funston

Julie Funston passed away peacefully on February 28, 2018, at the age of 88. Julie was born October 20, 1929, to Mabel and Clayton Shell in Argyle, IL. Julie traveled by train, with her parents, to the Wenatchee Valley in 1932, when she was three years old. Her family lived with the Ralph Kellogg family at the Spanish Castle, until Julie's family settled in Rock Island, WA, where she attended school. Julie graduated from Wenatchee High School in 1947, and in 1949, she attended Simpson Bible College, in the Seattle, WA, area. Julie worked with the American Sunday School Union, for many years in rural areas, where there were no churches. She also worked with the Youth for Christ and was involved with interchurch skating parties. After returning home to Rock Island, Julie began her career in 1951, working as an operator for Pacific Northwest Bell Telephone Company in Wenatchee. Julie Shell married Andy Funston on June 28, 1952, in Wenatchee, WA. Julie and Andy's daughter, Sherrie, was born 1954, in Wenatchee. Julie and Andy made East Wenatchee, WA, their home and enjoyed watching their grandsons, Keith and Brent Harris, grow into families of their own. Julie gave 28 years of service and in 1982, she retired as Supervisor with the Pacific Northwest Bell Telephone Company and belonged to the Telephone Pioneers. After their retirement, Julie and Andy traveled extensively with friends. Their travels took them to many destinations through the years including: Hawaii, Alaska, Washington, D.C., Florida, Tennessee, Greece, Turkey, and England. Through the years, Julie was a member and volunteered as the pianist for Rock Island Community Church, pianist and organist for the Free Will Baptist Church, and Eastmont Baptist Church in East Wenatchee. Julie was preceded in death by her parents, Mabel and Clayton Shell; and her husband, Andy Funston. Julie is survived by her daughter, Sherrie Funston; grandsons: Keith Harris (Amber), Brent Harris (Kerri); great-grandsons: Clayton and Cody Harris; brother, Dennis Shell (Eileen); niece, Kathy Francis (Mike) and family; nephew, Steve Shell (Jane) and family. A special thank you to Claudia and her staff, for their care of Julie, at Argonne Adult Family Home. A Memorial Service will be held at Chapel of the Valley, 302 Ninth St., Wenatchee, WA, at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, March 24, 2018. Arrangements are by Chapel of the Valley, Wenatchee, WA.
