Julie Osborne

Julie Anne (Daling) Osborne passed away on January 29, 2024, at the age of 69. Julie's life was a testament to her unwavering love for her family, her vibrant spirit, and her boundless compassion for others. Her passing leaves a profound void in the hearts of all who knew and loved her, but her legacy of kindness, warmth, and her infectious smile and laughter will forever be remembered. Born on June 15, 1954, in Waterville, Washington, to Merle and Ellen Jeanne Daling, Julie was the cherished fourth child of five siblings. Julie possessed a sharp and witty sense of humor even as a little girl and had a knack for getting little brother Paul in trouble for laughing at her antics as they sat in the choir loft of St. Joseph Church while their mother played the church organ during Sunday service. As a student, Julie loved cheerleading for Waterville High School and was crowned prom queen her senior year. Julie was known by her friends for having lots of mischievous fun—she was always up for an adventure, whether it was driving around on country backroads, making prank phone calls, or “smoking straws.” After graduation, Julie attended Eastern Washington University with the goal of becoming a dental hygienist—after leaving Eastern, she worked as a dental assistant for different offices in Wenatchee and the Seattle area, including the University of Washington Dental School. It was in the Seattle area that she began her life as the “best aunt ever,” acting as her nieces’ and nephews’ biggest fans at every school or sporting event and going above and beyond to create memorable experiences with them. Aunt Julie was devoted, kind, generous, and always knew how to “bring the joy.” Julie married Dick Osborne on December 19, 1998, and moved back to her hometown of Waterville. Julie managed the office of the NCW Fairgrounds in Waterville for over 17 years, and you could always expect her smiling face and the best customer service when you walked in the door of the Fair Office. A lover of good movies, Julie loved to do all-day “movie marathons” at theaters in Seattle in her younger days, and she also loved good music and attending concerts with friends and family. She enjoyed traveling and saw many different places around the country with her husband Dick, and also with her friend Janet (Comstock) Sinnot, including a trip through Amish Country that inspired the name of her beloved first dog and best friend, Yoder. Julie was preceded in death by her father and mother, Merle and Ellen Jeanne Daling, oldest sister Janet Daling Young, niece Kimberly Daling, brother-in-law Mike McDowell, mother-in-law Jackie Osborne, and sister-in-law and lifelong partner-in-crime Gina Woolett. Julie is survived by her husband, Dick, siblings Sally (Mike) McDowell of Bothell, Ed (Linda) Daling of Waterville, and Paul (LaiLee) Daling of Waterville. She is also survived by her stepchildren Justin (Kim), Josh (Allison), and Jenny Osborne, grandchildren Weston, Walker, Rosie, Leo, and Ruth, nephews Kevin, Jim, Dan, Cal, and Ian, and nieces Lisa, Susan, Courtney, and Lauren. A Memorial Mass service to celebrate Julie’s life will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Waterville on February 16, beginning at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in memory of Julie to the Waterville Ambulance Fund, c/o of the Douglas County Hospital District #2, PO Box 400, Waterville, WA 98858 (please specify that your donation is for the Waterville Ambulance Fund).
