June Ann Lucas

June Ann Cook, born on April 18, 1935 in Dyersburg, TN, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2016 at Bonaventure Retirement Community in East Wenatchee, WA. June was the daughter of Eldred and Dorothy Cook of Memphis, TN. June loved education and provided herself with many opportunities throughout her life. She graduated from Treadwell High School in Memphis in 1953 and continued her education attaining an x-ray technician certificate from St. Joseph Hospital School of X-Ray Technology. After that, June went to work as a stewardess for Braniff Airlines, flying the friendly skies and serving up plenty of smiles. She loved to tell stories about the glory days on the old propeller-driven aircraft. June married Robert Lucas in 1959 and moved to Wenatchee, WA, where they raised their two children, Camille and Troy. In 1968, June received her teaching certificate from Central Washington University and went to work for Eastmont School District as a teacher in the brand new Cascade Elementary school. June attended Wenatchee Valley College and graduated in 1985 with an RN degree and soon went to work for the Wenatchee Valley Clinic in radiation/oncology from which she retired. June loved her retirement years and stayed very active with her grandchildren as she frequently took them on outings, keeping them busy and herself young at heart. June also loved the outdoors with her beloved friends. She frequently joined them on World Hikes and was a large supporter and participant of the Bavarian Volkssport Association. June also spent good times with friends aboard the cruise ships exploring the Panama Canal and other ports of call. June's love of travel took her back to her home land of Memphis on numerous occasions to spend time with her younger brothers and their families, as nothing can separate the love from an older sister. June is survived by her son and daughter-in-law: Troy and Kati Lucas; daughter and son-in- law: Camille and Steve Whited; two brothers and sistesr-in-law: Derry and Edith Cook and Lewis and Bonnie Cook; and grandchildren: Brooke, Morgan, Taylor, Alyssa, Jazmyne, Elijah, and Zachary. Memorial Services will be held at Telford's Chapel of the Valley in East Wenatchee, WA, on Monday, March 21, 2016 at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in June's honor to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements are by Telford's Chapel of the Valley, East Wenatchee, WA.
