Kathleen Diane Allen

Kathleen "Kathy "Dianne Allen, 41, of Wenatchee left this physical world Thursday morning, September 10th, 2009. Her body was diagnosed with brain cancer in January of 2007. Kathleen Diane Zwick was born August 2, 1968 in Passadena California. Her family moved to Vancouver Washington in 1971. She graduated from Columbia River High School in Vancouver in 1986, Clark College in 1988, then from Washington State University in 1990. At WSU she made many lifelong friends. Kathy was a die-hard Cougar fan. As a friend, Kathy was extremely loyal and giving. The word that is most often used to describe Kathy is grace, and that is how she lived. Kathy moved to Wenatchee in 1991. She worked for JC Penney from 1985 until 1998 and made many great friends there. From 1999 to October 2006 Kathy worked as director of the Wenatchee Downtown Association. Many people in Wenatchee and around North Central Washington knew Kathy from her tireless effort to enhance the downtown community and work in many community organizations. Kathy's leadership helped the Wenatchee attain national recognition by winning the 2003 Great American Main Street Award. She met the love of her life, Kevin Allen, in December of 1995 on a blind date. They married on November 16, 1996 at Holy Apostles Catholic Church in East Wenatchee. God blessed Kathy and Kevin with one beautiful child, James, 4, who was the light of her life. Kathy was an active member of Wenatchee Central Lions club, a board member of the Washington State Apple Blossom Festival from2003 to 2009, and also very involved with Art on the Avenue and other community organizations. Survivors include her husband, Kevin, son, James at the family home. Her Mother Sharon Zwick of Vancouver, WA, her sister and brother in law, Cynthia and Dave Fahlgren and niece Paige of Vancouver; mother-in-law Geni Allen of Portland, OR; sister-in-law Kelly Allen of Wenatchee. Kathy was surrounded by friends, family, and neighbors who were tireless in support of her and her family. We can never begin to express our gratitude to all those who donated meals, gifts, babysitting and so much more. We especially thank friends Stephanie Ringo and Mary Thresher for their special care. We wish blessings to those who lifted our family up in prayer during these many months. A mass of remembrance will be held at St. Joeseph's Catholic Church in Wenatchee at 2 pm, Friday, September 25th. A celebration of her life will follow at 3:30 pm at Caffe Mella and the Owl Soda Fountain in downtown Wenatchee. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Washington State Apple Blossom Royalty Scholarship Fund, Washington State University Foundation, or Gilda's Club for cancer support. An account has been established at Washington Trust Bank for her son, James Allen's college fund.
