Kathleen Sivey

Kathy Sivey, 54, passed away peacefully Friday, December 18, 2015, with her husband and daughter by her side. Kathleen Marie Sivey was born June 25, 1961 in Klamath Falls, OR, to Patricia DeWarns and adopted father, Hank DeWarns. She was the oldest of three daughters. In 1965, the family moved to Red Bluff, CA, where Kathy spent her young adult years doing the things she loved most. Her world was built around the books she read, the clarinet, and working at Gene's Drive-In in Redding, CA. In 1977, at the age of 16, Kathy attended a teen dance at the Moose Club in Redding, where she met her one and only true love, Gary Sivey. They began a perfect young romance going out to the movies, swimming at Whiskeytown Lake, and enjoying each other's company. Kathy graduated Enterprise High School in Redding in 1979. When Gary transferred to Wenatchee Red Lion right after high school, they continued a long distance relationship. Gary asked her to marry him by phone and she agreed. They married June 20, 1981 in Redding, CA. Shortly after their marriage, Kathy joined Gary in Wenatchee and the two began their family. Kathy and Gary welcomed daughter, Erica in 1982, and son, Gary Jr. in 1984. Kathy loved being a mother; so much so that she was like a "second mom" to many of her children's friends. She always made it a point to have all the kids feel safe in coming to her. She opened the family home as the place to hang out. In 2006, Kathy was reunited with her biological father, James Forbus, her step- sister, Nancy Sims, and her niece, Lily Pando. She found joy in extending her family and getting to know them. The unexpected death of her son, Gary Jr. in 2008, made it an extremely difficult year for Kathy. Kathy and Gary Sr. found strength in their love for each other to help them through their heartbreaking loss. Through that tragedy, Kathy found a deeper appreciation for life and the people she loved. She was always known for her solid gold heart. She found happiness taking care of others and touching their lives. She worked as a Certified Nurse Assistant and activities aide at Colonial Vista until 2013, when she was forced to quit due to her health. This past September, 12 of Kathy's friends and family were able to join her on her dream vacation of a 7-day cruise to Alaska. On the trip, she enjoyed a train ride in Skagway and experienced some of the most beautiful scenery in the world, including the stunning Tracy Arm Fjord. During the last 19 months of Kathy's life, she showed those around her what true courage, bravery and strength look like. She is survived by husband, Gary Sivey; and daughter and son-in-law, Erica and Tim Gavin; mother, Patricia DeWarns, and step-mother, Imogene DeWarns; sister, Deanna Rippy, sister and brother-in-law, Patty and Dale Dawson, and stepsister, Nancy Sims. She is also survived by daughter-in-law, Alisha Sivey; father-in-law, Donald Sivey; brothers and sisters-in-law, Dan and Elaine Sivey, Ron and Mary Sivey, and Darla and Mike Corbell. She was preceded in death by her son, Gary Sivey Jr; father, James Forbus, father, Hank DeWarns, and mother-in-law, Inez Sivey. Services for Kathy Sivey will be held on Saturday, January 9, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Crossroads Church in Wenatchee. Arrangements are assisted by Telford's Chapel of the Valley, East Wenatchee.
