Larry P. Frack

"Let's move to the Territory of Hawaii," said Melvin Frack to his wife Ruth in 1928. They left their home in Ferndale, WA and took a ship across the ocean to start a new life. After making their home in Honolulu, Ruth announced, "I'm pregnant," and Larry P. Frack was born on June 16, 1932. He had three brothers: Burton, Marshall, and Malcom. "Dad, you need to see this, Pearl Harbor is on fire," said little Larry on December 7, 1941. "Get up Dad, there are Japanese planes flying over our house!" At the age of 13, Larry returned to the mainland with his family. It was a 13 day journey on the Permanente, escorted by U.S. Destroyer ships on each side. They landed in San Francisco, CA and traveled by car five days to get to Seattle, WA, their new home. He treasured and valued playing #52 all four years on the Roosevelt High School football team. His dad instructed, "Larry, you enlist in the military and pick your branch, do not get drafted." Larry joined the Air Force in 1952 and was an In Flight Mechanic A/E scanner on a C-124 Globemaster. During his four years in the Air Force, Larry loved seeing much of the world. Larry proposed, "Let's get married," to Judy Staley in 1955. His life was enriched with the blessings of four daughters: Leslie, Lori, Lindsey, and Leanne. Larry moved to Wenatchee in 1974. "I'm not busy enough," thought Larry during his 41 years in Wenatchee. Besides working for Chevron U.S.A. Inc. for 34 years, Larry was an avid volunteer in the community. The list is long including Applarian Chancellor, Apple Blossom Director General, Douglas County Sewer District Commissioner, President of Wenatchee Golf and Country Club, President of Country Club Crescent, Senior Warden of St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Wenatchee Rotary President, Council Member for the City of East Wenatchee, and supporter and volunteer for the Central Washington Hospital Foundation. In 1989, he asked Darlene Wylie, "Will you marry me?" Darlene responded, "Absolutely!" In 26 years of marriage, they golfed, hiked and traveled to Hawaii, Palm Springs, Australia, across Europe, and to their very favorite spot, Yachats, Oregon. Larry is survived by his wife, Darlene; daughters, Leslie (Lou) Clark, Lori (Jeff) Reeder, Lindsey (Rod) Winkelkotter, Leanne (Craig) McInery, Kim (Shawn) Woodbury; eleven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Nancy Frack; and many, many friends. A Memorial Service will be held at First United Methodist Church at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 30, 2015. In true Larry fashion, he asked that those attending his memorial "please wear Hawaiian attire". In lieu of flowers, Larry requested donations to United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR), or Central Washington Hospital Home Care & Hospice.
