Lois (Kuest) Meyer

Lois Alcinda (Kuest) Meyer October 6, 1919 ~ May 7, 2015 Lois was born October 6, 1919, to Anton and Rachel (Moe) Johnson. She had two brothers, Arthur and Norris, and one sister, Viola (Mullen) Johnson, born in that order, with Lois being the youngest child. Lois was raised in the Entiat Valley by her parents, attended a one room grade school and graduated from high school in 1938. Lois packed apples in many packing sheds and, in the summer, would hike up to Duncan Mountain lookout with friends to visit her oldest brother, Arthur, who was in charge of the lookout there. In 1945, Lois moved to Wenatchee and worked for Fergusen-Ross Insurance, located in the Savings and Loan Building in Wenatchee, for four years. A barber shop was located in that Savings and Loan Building and as Lois would pass by the barber shop, a conversation began between her and the barber named Emel A. Kuest. On May 15, 1946, Lois married Emel. Lois continued to work for Fergusen-Ross Insurance. On June 12, 1949, at 29 years of age, Lois was baptized into Christ at Grace Lutheran Church. Lois began working for Mary Beauvelis Income Tax Office, and worked there for four years, then Wenatchee Valley Clinic for nine and one half years, and then the Eye and Ear Clinic for 15 and one half years, from which she retired in 1982. She and Emel enjoyed camping and boating. Emel had built a cabin cruiser, which they docked at the Cove on Lake Chelan. They also spent many months camping in their trailer at Jack's Resort, located in Conconully, WA. Emel A. Kuest passed from this life on May 19, 1987. As a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Lois sang in the church choir, was involved in the Quilting and Prayer Cloth Ministries, and was a faithful attendee. As a family member, Lois fixed dinners and invited family members for birthdays, Christmas and special occasions. Her corned beef and cabbage on St. Patrick's Day will be missed, but she is chosen over the corned beef and cabbage. Lois was an excellent seamstress. She enjoyed working in her yard with her husband and was very interested in family history. Lois was very active in Lady Lions Club for many years. When her dad was passing away, she stayed with him faithfully, as she was faithful in caring for her sister, Viola, in her difficult times of sickness. On June 12, 1998, at 73 years of age, 11 years after the loss of her first husband, she married Norman A. Meyer, a long time member of Grace Lutheran Church, who lost his wife. Norm and Lois had a very happy time together, though at first, they were calling each other by their previous mate's names, with apologies of course. Norm and Lois were busy people: Norm making various wood creations and wood scripture verses, and Lois working on the lawn, cooking and inviting friends to come over. They enjoyed camping, golf, church, and friends together. Norm passed on to the Lord July 27, 2014. Lois (Kuest) Meyer passed on to the Lord at 11:10 a.m. May 7, 2015. She will be missed by so many friends and family. A Graveside Service will be held Friday, May 15, 2015, at 9:30 a.m. at Evergreen Memorial Park in East Wenatchee. A Memorial Service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Wenatchee. Viewing will be held Thursday, May 14, 2015, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Grace Lutheran Church, or a charity of choice. Arrangements are by Telford's Chapel of the Valley, East Wenatchee.
