Lorean M. Sims

Lorean M. "Rean" Sims East Wenatchee, WA Lorean M. Sims, 88, went home to be with our Lord on Thursday, November 19, 2015. She was surrounded by her loving family, at her daughter's home in East Wenatchee. Rean was born on December 20, 1926, to Ethel (Baxter) and Challie Roach at Sandtown, AR. She was the fourth of nine children. She went to school, in Sandtown, in a one room school house, from the first through the eighth grade. Upon completing the 8th grade, she returned to the home to work with her brothers and sisters, helping their dad clear land, using plow and horses, to raise cotton, tobacco, corn and sorghum for marketing, along with farm animals and large vegetable gardens for home use. In the spring of 1948, at the age of 21, Rean ventured out alone, taking her first ever train trip across the country to be with her older sister, Leneal and husband, Earnie Lewis in Washington State. She met their friend, Hubert Sims, upon arrival in Wenatchee, WA. He had brought his pickup truck to the train station to carry her luggage home. Hubert and Rean were married September 28th of that same year. They settled in Cashmere, WA. They worked in the fruit orchards in the summer months and then she worked packing candy at the Aplets and Cotlets candy plant in the winter. In September of 1949, their daughter, Barbara was born and in August of 1956, their son, Ronal was born, completing their little family. In 1967, they purchased the first of three orchards and moved to East Wenatchee, WA. Together, Rean and Hubert spent several years successfully improving and selling orchards while increasing their acreage each time. In 1980, they retired and moved to Entiat, WA for a short time and then on to Sequim, WA to be near the ocean. They enjoyed fishing for halibut, salmon, sea bass and they loved taking the grandkids to fish for rock fish. They also traveled over all of the U.S., including Alaska, in their RV. Rean loved being a homemaker. Her hands were never idle. She raised beautiful flowers and large vegetable gardens, which she preserved by canning, drying and freezing. She sewed clothes for her family, crocheted gifts for friends; but her passion was quilting. She cut every little piece out one at a time and sewed them together by hand with needle and thread. She gave every quilt away, to family and friends, to farm workers that lived on the ranches, to women and children's shelters, never accepting money for them. There are many many people out there today wrapped in the warmth of her love. Rean loved the Lord and was strong in her faith. She often said she was eager to see His face. She attended Eastmont Baptist Church. Rean is survived by daughter, Barbara (Noel) Adkins of East Wenatchee, WA; son, Ronal (Dottie) Sims of Mead, WA; brother, Thomas (Vivian) Roach of Mesa, AZ; sister, Treva Comer of Munford, TN; grandchildren, Tondy Adkins, Tiffany (Ed) Stretch, Michael Sims, Jeremy Sims, Joshua Rudolph-Smith; great- grandchildren, William, Kaitlin, Kasen, plus one to be born; as well as brothers and sisters-in-law; several nieces, nephews, and their children and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Hubert in 2002; brother, Alvin Roach; sisters, Luella Hoffman, Leneal Lewis, Lenora Wright, Remona Berger and baby sister, Ella Ray Roach. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at Telford's Chapel of the Valley with Pastor Steve Brewer officiating. Friends, in lieu of flowers, may wish to make a memorial in Lorean's name to: CWH Hospice, 1020 N. Wenatchee Ave., Wenatchee, WA 98801. Arrangements are by Telford's Chapel of the Valley, East Wenatchee.
