Loyal Cameron Robinson

Loyal Cameron Robinson, 91, died August 5th, 2011, at his home. Loyal was born on March 1st, 1920, at the family farm home in Lincoln County, NE to Okey Newton and Edith Byers Robinson. He was the youngest of seven children. In 1935, Loyal received Nebraska's Best Young Citizen award for outstanding scholarship and sportsmanship. He graduated from Stapleton High School in 1936. Following graduation, he worked at home, attended one year of college, and taught for one year. Loyal then spent three years working in the Morning and Sunshine mines in Northern Idaho. After World War II, he returned to Nebraska and completed his degree at Kearney State Teacher's College. Loyal taught school in Eastern Washington for 33 years. After teaching for two years in Nebraska, he served as elementary school principal in Northport, WA from 1948-1951, and then taught in Waterville. Later, he received his Master's Degree in Administration from Eastern Washington State College. Loyal taught science at Sterling Junior High for 24 years, retiring in 1980. Throughout his teaching career, he coached football, wrestling, baseball, and basketball. While living through the Great Depression influenced Loyal to live a personally frugal life, he was generous to others. One time he provided basketball shoes to a needy student, telling the student he had "found" them in a closet at school, when in fact the closet was his own. On March 29th, 1941, Loyal married Harriett W. Shaw in Mullan, ID. They made a home for her sisters, after the deaths of Harriett's parents, raising Harriett's youngest sister as well as their three children. Earlier this year, Loyal and Harriett celebrated their 70th Wedding Anniversary. Loyal was baptized in 1957, and was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church for over 50 years. In addition to his church, Loyal enjoyed sports, travel, and family activities, and supported a number of charitable organizations. In addition to his wife Harriett, he is survived by his sister-in-law, Mary Colleen Grubb, of Wenatchee; and three children, Marilyn and her husband, Jim Waldrip, of Merlin, OR; Randy and his wife, Jeanne, of Longmont, CO; and Jenny and her husband, Steve Hancock, of Auburn, WA. He is also survived by two grandsons and one great-grandson. Loyal was thrilled to hold his two week old great-grandson just days before his passing. A private Inurnment Service will take place at Evergreen Memorial Park in East Wenatchee, followed by a Memorial Service on Thursday, August 11, 2011, at 3:00 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in East Wenatchee. Memorials may be made to the Faith Lutheran Church building fund, or to Central Washington Hospital Hospice.
