Margaret Williams Burns

Lucille was born in Bonita, Malheur Co., OR to Daniel Abraham Zehner and Exie Ethel Monroe, the fifth of six children. She attended grade schools in The Dalles and Terrebonne, and high school in Redmond, OR, graduating in 1936 from Granger High in Granger, WA. Lucille led a pioneer life with her family in Bonita, a one-family, two-building town with a combination home, store, post office, and blacksmith, all without running water. Her starkest memories of Bonita were of winters being freezing cold. The family moved to Ontario, OR before the birth of their sixth child, where they lived in a tent, which she remembered being colder. They moved back to Bonita after about a year, and eventually to The Dalles, OR, where they also lived in a tent, often buffeted with fierce winds, before moving to a house. When Lucille was nine, they moved to a dairy farm east of Terrebonne, just before the Great Depression started, where the family resided until the move to Granger before Lucille's senior year of high school. She married John "Frank" Williams on December 18, 1937 in Redmond, OR. Together, they had three children: James Robert, John Carl, and Daniel Frank, while residing at Lower Bridge, west of Terrebonne. In 1947, the family moved to Washington, eventually settling in Quincy, WA. She was a long- time employee of Call's Drug Store in Quincy. In 1995, she married James "Jim" Burns of Quincy. In 2009, Lucille and Jim moved to Wenatchee, WA and resided at Colonial Vista, a retirement and assisted living facility, until her death. Lucille was always family-oriented and, until her last few years, never missed acknowledging birthdays and anniversaries, a feat made more remarkable after marrying Jim Burns and acquiring four more step-children and numerous grand- and great-grandchildren. Lucille was preceded in death by her parents and siblings: Robert, Helen (Wright), Carl, Marion (Graham), and Cathryn (Ebbert); husbands, Frank Williams and Jim Burns; and son, James (Carol). She is survived by sons, John (Bernice) of Quincy, WA and Dan (Susan) of Redmond, WA; grandchildren, Denise Dealy, Tracy Williams, Carla Gonzales, Annette Lupo, Lisa Fuchs, Matthew Williams, Amy Helnore; step-grandchildren, David Wilson and Tonya Reid; and 25 great-grandchildren. There will be a Celebration of Life for Lucille at the Quincy Cemetery on Monday, April 18, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. It would have been her 97th birthday. Arrangements are being made by Telford's Chapel of The Valley, East Wenatchee, WA. In lieu of remembrances, she requested that any contributions be made to your favorite charity.
