Mary Kay Brooks

Mary Kay Craven Brooks January 12, 1959 ~ August 5, 2015 Mary Kay Craven Brooks died at home with hospice care on August 5, 2015. She was born in Wenatchee to Maude and Lev Craven and attended Wenatchee schools. She married Walter Brooks at Grace Lutheran Church on June 16, 2007. They were a loving, happy and devoted couple for the last eight years. In 1972, Mary Kay's parents helped establish a private non-profit agency called Mission Vista that provides support to adults with special needs. Mission Vista is committed to creating an environment in which individuals are treated with dignity and respect. Mission Vista believes that all people have the right to make life choices, reach for their dreams and experience fully-lived lives. Mary Kay lived at Hillside House and Mission Vista Group Home, before moving into an apartment and finally her own condo, where she and her husband lived independently. Mission Vista Residential Living program provided support to Mary Kay and Walter for over 30 years. The Craven family will forever be grateful to the Mission Vista staff for the love and care of our sister and other people with disabilities in Wenatchee. She was a dedicated worker who took pride in her jobs at Supervised Skills, The Apple Shop, hotel room maintenance, the airport gift shop and Goodwill Industries. She travelled to Disneyland and Hawaii, rafted the Rogue River, visited her brothers and aunt in Oregon and California, and attended Galloway family reunions in McCall, ID and went swimming with the dolphins in the Bahamas. She enjoyed Special Olympics track & field, bowling, basketball, soccer and she loved to dance. She had many friends. In fact, her brothers couldn't take her anywhere in Wenatchee without someone greeting her with a happy "Hi Mary Kay". Her presence in all of our lives was a gift. She is survived by her husband, Walter Brooks; her three brothers and their wives, Wes and Linda Craven, Tac Craven and Pat Wong, Gary and Katie Craven; eight nieces and nephews: Christie Craven, Greg Craven (Jody), Erik Craven (Renee), Kevin Craven (Karissa), Amy Craven Ward (Erick), Kelly Craven, Mark Craven and Kathryn Morgan (Robert) and her Mission Vista family. A Memorial Service will be held at Grace Lutheran Church in Wenatchee on August 22, 2015, at 11:00 am. Donations may be made in memory of Mary Kay to The Mission Vista Quality of Life Fund, 630 N Chelan Ave, Suite A-1, Wenatchee, WA 98801. Arrangements are entrusted to the staff at Telford's Chapel of the Valley East Wenatchee.
