Nancy Lea Phillips

November 18, 2013 Nancy Lea Phillips was called home to her Lord after she lost her hard fought battle with cancer. Nancy was born April 11, 1965 to Ivan and Naomi (Miller) Hogg in Yakima, WA. She was the youngest of five children. Nancy lived in Yakima until she moved to live with her dad in Wapato when she was twelve. She attended the Wapato School District from grade school through high school. While in high school Nancy attended Wapato Beauty School learning her tradecraft of cosmetology. She often used her sisters and step-sisters to practice hair styles on. Nancy worked part time to pay for her schooling. She dated off and on her future husband John Phillips. After graduating from Wapato High School Nancy moved to Grandview and managed a hair salon. While John was on leave from the Army they got married in November 1984. Nancy moved to South Carolina to be with John while he was stationed there. Nancy continued to cut hair. Nancy gave birth to their son, John Michael, in February 1986. Several years later Nancy and John moved back to Wapato where she became in an instructor at the Beauty School for several years. Nancy and John Michael moved to Giessen, Germany after John re-enlisted into the US Army. While she was in Germany Nancy travelled throughout the country and to France and Austria. In October 1990 Nancy gave birth to their daughter Erika Marie in Frankfurt, Germany. The family moved to Ft Leonard Wood, Missouri until John finished his military service. Nancy and John moved back to Yakima where Nancy started teaching again. Nancy was a very caring and demanding instructor. She believed if you were going to take care of a customer's hair it should be done right. Nancy and John moved the family to Wenatchee in 1994. Nancy worked as a homemaker for a while raising their kids. She then went work as a CNA for Highline Convalescent Center for several years. Nancy returned to doing hair. Nancy enjoyed bowling, gardening, camping and spending time with her family in the mountains. She enjoyed taking pictures much to the chagrin of most of the Phillips clan. Nancy had a way about her and she eventually wore of them down. Nancy opened her own business in 2001 with salons in Hearthstone Assisted Living and at Highline Convalescent. Nancy worked with residents and clients from outside. She enjoyed working with the elderly, hearing their stories from the past and helping them. Nancy believed no one should die alone so on several occasions she stayed with a resident until they passed. In 2012 Nancy closed her business to address some health issues. After being diagnosed with cancer Nancy never gave up. She worried more about the people who came to help her than she did about herself. Nancy passed away at home surrounded by her family. Nancy was preceded in death by her mother Naomi (Miller) Bauer, and her grandparents Irma and Brian Hogg of Wapato. Nancy is survived by her husband John Phillips, Wenatchee; her son John Michael Phillips, East Wenatchee; her daughter Erika Phillips, Wenatchee; her father Ivan (Margie) Hogg, Selah; mother-in-law Mary (Danny) Harless, Moses Lake; sisters, Rita Lockhart, Yakima, Judy (Joe) Cervantes, Lynnwood and Lori Hogg, Yakima, Stephanie Harris, Ft Wayne, IN; her brother Christopher Hogg, MO; her step-sisters, Teri (Ed) Hixson, Angie (Mark) Harris both of Yakima; step-brother Norman (Desarae) Weathers, Kenniwick; brother in-law Todd Phillips, Yakima, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Services will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday November 26, 2013 at Telford's Chapel of the Valley, 711 Grant Rd, East Wenatchee. A memorial dinner will follow at St Joseph Catholic Church, 625 S. Elliott Ave, Wenatchee. Arrangements are by Telford's Chapel of the Valley, East Wenatchee, WA
