Olive Jane Goodell

Olive J. "Ollie" Goodell East Wenatchee, WA Olive J. "Ollie" Goodell sadly left us unexpectedly, due to complications of a stroke, on Tuesday, October 9, 2018, at the age of 80. Ollie was born to Godfrey L. and Alice E. (Dillon) Strickland on January 10, 1938, in Barron, WI. The family ran a small dairy farm there. She lost her one older sister, Fern, when she was two. Then came Jim, Rose, Dean, Carl, and baby boy Strickland, who was stillborn. When Ollie was nine, Godfrey packed up all his kids and Alice and headed west to Washington State, landing at old Mill Camp in Ardenvoir, WA. This is where Ollie would meet the center of her world and future husband of 55 years, Ward. The two married just weeks after Ollie graduated from Entiat High School in June of 1956. In January of 1959, they started their own family with a little even tempered blonde haired girl they named Julie Anne. When Julie was two, they moved to Wenatchee, WA. Then a year later, they moved to East Wenatchee, WA, where they ended the family expansion with the birth of their baby boy, Ward, Jr., whom Ollie would tie to a chair from time to time for safe keeping. She had a deep love and devotion to her family, which helped mold her children's character. When the kids started school, she started to work in the fruit industry, doing a variety of jobs in apples and cherries. The job kept her busy during the weekdays, but evenings and weekends would find her hanging with family and friends. She loved and played softball, camping and fishing in the summer, bowling, square dancing, and playing cards with her dearest friends. She also later, after Ward passed, went four-wheelin' with her friend, Betty. Ollie loved everyone and they knew it. She was always there to help when it was needed, and there wasn't many people who didn't consider her a part of their family. Ollie had a warming spirit. She was a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who will be dearly missed. Nothing will fill the void of her absence, but know this, right now she is happy, hand-in-hand with her soulmate. We love you Mom, always and forever. Ollie was preceded in death by her husband, Ward D. Goodell, Sr.; her parents, Godfrey L. and Alice E. Strickland; two sisters, Fern Strickland, and Rose Strickland Elhard-Morisette; and her beloved in-laws, Jack B. and Edith V. Goodell; also Ward's two sisters, and a brother; a niece and a nephew. Ollie is survived by her daughter, Julie A. (Goodell) Schoffen; son-in-law, Derek H. Schoffen; grandson, Nicholas L. Schoffen, all of East Wenatchee, WA; her son, Ward D. Goodell, Jr., daughter-in-law, CleAnn P. Goodell, granddaughter, Bailee Layne Goodell, all of Wenatchee, WA. She is also survived by her sister, Deanie (Al) Chandler of East Wenatchee, WA; two brothers: Jim(Netta) Strickland of Selah, WA, Carl Strickland (Jan) Strickland of Tieton, WA; and her extended family: grandson, R.T. Greiner; son and daughter, Bob and Valerie Greiner, also of East Wenatchee, WA; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. A Graveside Service for Ollie will begin at 11:00 a.m., on Monday, October 22, 2018, at Evergreen Memorial Park, 1301 NE 10th, East Wenatchee, WA. Arrangements are by Chapel of The Valley, Wenatchee.
