Pearl Irene Huff

Pearl grew up in the Rainier Valley of Seattle, WA. She was the oldest of eight children born to Roy R. Drake and Mildred I. (Hoffman) Drake. Pearl was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel L. Huff, who passed on January 26, 1999. They were married for 56 years. Sam was in the Navy, which found the family living in various locations which Mama always managed to make feel like home. Pearl was also preceded in death by her siblings: Marion, Buddy "Roy O", Jimmy, Jeanette, and Phyllis. Pearl is survived by her three children: Sandra I. Vereb (Lennard Julius L. Vereb), Samuel R. Huff (Linda M. Huff), and Linda B. Hummel (Richard G. Hummel); six grandchildren: Tawnya I. Mott (Dave Mott), Robert Vereb, Samuel W. Huff (Tammy Huff), Stacie Huff (Madre Stocker), Glenn P. Hummel, and Kerri L. Hummel; five great-grandchildren: Gabriell I. Gillespie, Garren L. Gillespie, Dylan Huff, Sidney Huff and Micah J. Vereb; two step-great-grandchildren: Kenon and Spencer Mott. Pearl is also survived by her sister, Ethel Amicarella; and brother, Chuck (Charles) Drake. Pearl was a devoted wife and mother. She enjoyed working on craft projects with her grandchildren. She shared her love of sewing and cooking. No one made better homemade raviolis with her outstanding red sauce. She enjoyed many types of crafts including: oil painting, ceramics, crocheting, knitting, and working with various textiles. Pearl was a Rotary member, and made beautiful Christmas ornaments and pins for the annual holiday fundraiser. Pearl enjoyed her involvement with the Colton and Lewiston Gun Clubs with Sam. Pearl and Sam went fishing often while stationed in Honolulu in 1948. In 1950, Pearl learned to dance the Hula. She even made a beautiful "grass" skirt out of yellow nylon cord. Home, family, and creativity were an integral part of Mama's life. A small family memorial was held at Tahoma National Cemetery on May 10, 2019. An additional Celebration of Life will be observed during the Drake Family Picnic in July 2019. Memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer's Association or any other dementia association of your choice. Arrangements were assisted by Chapel of the Valley, Wenatchee, WA.
