Peggy Jean Thompson

Peggy Jean Thompson, 86, passed away on Thursday, March 12, 2009, at Central Washington Hospital. Peggy was born on November 17, 1922, in Tacoma, WA and grew up in a strongly political family. She was raised with a love of politics, which led her to be the secretary for the Washington State Young Democrats. After graduating, Peggy married Ed Thompson and they began their lives together in Raymond, WA, where they had two daughters. Peggy began developing her love of crafts and she excelled at cross-stitch and ceramics. She even began decorating cakes for weddings. Peggy could also get anything to grow almost anywhere. Ed and Peggy moved to Othello in the late 1960's, and Peggy began to work as the Secretary to the Superintendent of the Othello School District. Peggy outlasted four superintendents and was an amazing asset to the school district. During this time, Ed and Peggy also bought their dream property in the Ponderosa and began to plan the cabin they would build and to which they would retire. They finally retired to their cozy log cabin on the Wenatchee River with their dachshund Pretzel. Peggy was active in the Methodist Church and in the community government. She and Ed also traveled often to Hawaii, Reno and Arizona; even surprising their grandchildren with a trip to Disneyland. Peggy always knew how to make every occasion special. She and her sister, Carol, celebrated their Irish heritage with a St. Patrick's Day bash every year and Ed would make the Irish Coffee. Peggy would also make the best clam chowder every Christmas Eve and she also made sure everyone in her large family had a homemade stocking to hang by the fireplace every Christmas Eve. Peggy was driven by a love for family. She was unafraid to invite anyone into her family and there are several people who consider themselves Peggy's honorary children. After her husband passed, Peggy's family even grew to include her beloved cat and the several hundred teddy bears she collected. She named them all and could remember all their names. She could be strong-willed and incredibly determined, but Peggy always did what she felt was best for her family. She was not afraid to speak her mind and taught those around her to stand up for themselves. Peggy is survived by her daughter, Sherri Thompson of Meridian, ID; sister, Carol Wescott of Bothell, WA; brother, Jim O'Neil of Guemes Island, WA; grandsons, Jim Albrandt of Las Vegas, NV and Brett Schafer of Wenatchee, WA; granddaughters, Tania Albrandt of Portland, OR, Christina McClaskey of Meridian, ID and Danielle Schafer-Cloke of Wenatchee, WA; great-grandsons, Ben, Nick and Josh Schafer of Wenatchee, WA; and the children of her heart, Vickie and Gary Karcutski and Meriel Chamberlain of Wenatchee, WA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ed Thompson; and her eldest daughter, Linda Anderson. According to her wishes, no Services will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes for donations to be made to the American Cancer Society or the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
