Peter H. Peterson

Pete's most famous traits were the twinkle in his eyes, mischievous smile, and looking and acting like Santa Claus. While Parkinson's shortened his story, it did not make it any less amazing. His life was well-lived and filled with adventures and a miracle he survived some of them. He deeply loved the outdoors, family, and friends. Pete was the third eldest of nine children of Adele Frances (McLaughlin) and Francis Seward Peterson (both deceased). Living in Port Townsend, WA, allowed his free spirit to discover the challenges of the sea and outdoor recreation. Pete graduated from Port Townsend High School, joined the U.S. Air Force, and developed skills in electronics that would spark his inner geek, setting the stage for careers in computers and radio station engineering. His favorite duty stations were Iceland and Alaska, working on fighter jets, rock climbing, and skiing. His career advice? Do what you love, and you'll never have to work a day in your life. Pete found his sailing and life partner in Susan. After working for Intel and ALCOA, Wenatchee became home. As Radio Station Engineer for KPQ, Cherry Creek Radio, and KOHO radios, he climbed radio towers, hiked, skied, and snowshoed to remote sites, combining his love of the outdoors with his electronic skills. Summers were spent boating and hiking on Lake Chelan with the Lake Chelan Boating Club and teaching boater safety as an instructor of the Coast Guard Auxiliary. Pete gave back to community whenever he could. He worked disaster relief for the American Red Cross, from giving out teddy bears to children who had lost their homes, to delivering supplies to firefighters. A member of Mission Ridge Ski Patrol and Chelan County Mountain Rescue, his favorite activity was flying long-line under helicopters into remote sites. His mischievous side, both got him into trouble or saved him from trouble, depending upon who you spoke with. Pete is survived by his wife, Susan; son, Michael; and eight siblings: Kathy, John, Barb, James, Teresa, Christine, Patricia, and Michele; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Monday, April 15, 2019, at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 428 King St., Wenatchee, WA, with a 2:00 p.m. luncheon (please bring a dish to share) at the Wenatchee Valley Senior Activities Center, 1312 Maple St., Wenatchee, WA.
