Phyllis June Loewen

Phyllis June Loewen, 81, passed away peacefully at home on Mother's Day, May 12, 2019. All four of her children and many of her grandchildren were by her side. Phyllis was born in Almira, WA, on March 9, 1938, to Alice Brown Cunningham and Roy Brown. Phyllis spent her childhood in Hartline, WA, and graduated from Hartline High School, in 1956. She remained close to her classmates and was happy to chair their 50th class reunion, where she wore her high school sweater and saddle shoes. At a high school dance, she met Ray Loewen, who was from nearby Wilson Creek, WA. They shared a dance, and after the dance, she challenged Ray to a drag race-and she won-both the race and Ray's heart. They were married on April 12, 1957. They spent the first few years of their marriage in Soap Lake, WA. They moved to Wenatchee, WA, in 1961, and that was her home for the next 58 years. Phyllis was a wonderful homemaker, loved to decorate for holidays, and hosted the best family gatherings. Phyllis was a bookkeeper by trade, but also waitressed for many years in several restaurants in Wenatchee. She began her working life when she was 13 and was sent to cook on a local wheat ranch. She made her first pie on the ranch and that was the beginning of a lifetime of the most delicious pies in the world, loved by so many of her family and friends. Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, Ray; both of her parents; an infant sister; and two brothers. She is survived by her four children: Dan Loewen (Traci), Lori Grim (Jim), Ron Loewen, and Robin Loewen. She is also survived by her seven grandchildren: Mitchell (Soo), Benjamin (Shawn), Evan (Brittney), Sean, Bailee, Brooke, and Ryan; and two great-grandsons: Wes and Jaxson. Perhaps Phyllis's greatest accomplishment was being a grandmother - she was adored by her grandchildren and for all of them, heaven on earth was found at grandma's house. The family would like to give a special thank you to our friend and Phyllis' nurse, B. J. Jones, who so lovingly and professionally took care of Phyllis these past few years. And of course, thank you to Robin who has sacrificed so much, so her mother could stay at home all these years. There are no words to express our gratitude to you. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2019, at 11:00 a.m., at Trinity United Methodist Church, 850 N. James Ave., East Wenatchee, WA. Burial will follow at the Hartline Cemetery in Hartline, WA. Memorial contributions may be made to Central Washington Hospital Hospice in her name. Arrangements are by Chapel of the Valley, Wenatchee, WA.
