Reigh "Gar" Garland Harris

Reigh Garland Harris passed away peacefully on June 24, 2026, in East Wenatchee, Washington, surrounded by the love of his family. He was 87 years old. Garland was born on August 11, 1938, in Prince Edward Island, Canada, to David and Charlotte Harris. He and his twin brother, Garth, were the youngest of five children, joining older siblings Lorne, Olga, and Vance. Growing up on Prince Edward Island instilled in Garland a love of family, hard work, and community that remained with him throughout his life. Garland married Rosemary Wagner, in Montreal, Canada, where they welcomed their first two children, David and Wendy. In 1962, Garland and Rosemary took a leap of faith, moving their young family to Wenatchee, Washington, in search of new opportunities. It was a decision that would shape the rest of their lives and establish deep roots in the community they came to call home. There they built a home and welcomed two more children, Sandy and Darren, creating a life centered on family, hard work, and lasting friendships. After Rosemary's unexpected passing in 1982, Garland married Kay Guston. Together they shared many happy years living in Quincy, Washington, Yuma, Arizona, and returning often to Prince Edward Island, the place that always held a special place in Garland's heart. Kay preceded him in death on January 1, 2026. Garland dedicated much of his professional life to serving his community. He spent 18 years as a manager at C&O Nursery before becoming Finance Director for the City of Wenatchee. Hockey was one of Garland's greatest passions. He was one of the original founders of the Wenatchee Youth Hockey Association, helping introduce generations of young athletes to the sport he loved. He continued playing well into his senior years as a member of the Washington State Senior Olympic Hockey Team for 13 years, traveling to Santa Rosa, California, to compete against teams from around the world. He was elected into the Wenatchee Hockey Hall of Fame and generously gave his time as a past director of both the Pacific Northwest Amateur Hockey Association and the Amateur Hockey Association of the United States, leaving a lasting legacy in the hockey community. Those who knew Garland will remember his gentle nature and bright smile. His resilience, kindness, and sense of humor touched the lives of many and will continue to be remembered by all who knew him. Garland is survived by his children: David Harris of Mesquite, Nevada; Wendy May of East Wenatchee, Washington; Sandy Curtis of Quincy, Washington; and Darren Harris of Kent, Washington. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchild, extended family, and many lifelong friends who will miss him dearly. A private family gathering to celebrate Garland's life will be held this fall.
