Reuben Smiley

Reuben T. Smiley, age 59, of Wenatchee, WA, took his final ride September 12, 2009, just outside of Leavenworth, WA. Reuben was the son of the late Reuben and Ruth Smiley. He was born October 26, 1949, in Spokane, WA. Reuben spent many years in the Wenatchee Valley, working at numerous barber shops, before opening Smiley's Barber Shop at 412 N. Mission Street in Wenatchee. Reuben was a well respected and well loved figure in the Wenatchee Valley. Reuben was a lover of Harley-Davidson and owned numerous bikes in his life. In the past few years, Reuben was a brother and mentor to all of his family in the Hombres Motorcycle Club, of which he was a member and beloved brother. Reuben lived life on his terms. "Don't sweat the small stuff, love hard and make every day a new adventure." Reuben embarked on many adventures with his children, his close friends, his brothers and the many friends he had made over the years. The past few months, Reuben had found a kindred spirit, lover and friend in Christina. Reuben had lived a colorful life, with many years being a part of a clean and sober community. Reuben was an icon in Wenatchee and will be dearly missed. Reuben is survived by his daughter, Rebekah; son, Elijah; granddaughter, Aryanna; his sister, Beverly; and nephew, Gunner. Reuben also had an honorary son, Jamie. Reuben was also preceded in death by his brother, Howard. A Memorial Service will be held at Apple Annie's in Cashmere on Saturday, October 3, 2009, at 1:00 p.m. There will also be a potluck gathering for all family and friends immediately after the service. A trust fund has been set up for the family. The gypsy wind, it called your name, no time to say good-bye. You left us here alone, our friend, to take your final ride. The world, it couldn't tame your soul, you lived your life with pride. Now you soar free - like the crow, you're on your final ride. Your memory won't fade, our friend, we'll hold you deep inside.
