Richard L. Lobe

Richard L. Lobe, 79, passed away peacefully at Highline Care Center, in East Wenatchee, on April 11, 2012, after a brief illness. Richard was born in Malaga, WA, on April 2, 1933, to Emanuel and Annie Lobe and attended school in Wenatchee, WA. Richard had several moves out of the area during his younger years and eventually returned to the Wenatchee Valley in approximately 1982 where he resided until his passing. Richard was child like due to a developmental disability. Perhaps this is why he had such a huge heart, was so loving and considered everyone his friend. Richard loved to have visitors and loved to hug people. He gave great big bear hugs. Richard's pastimes included collecting aluminum cans, playing cards, putting together jigsaw puzzles and coloring. Some of his artwork and puzzles hung on his wall in his room so that others could enjoy the hard work he put into them. He especially enjoyed his time at the front desk with Trish (Highline Care Center), helping her with office work such as placing labels on items. Often staff or friends would bring in their pets and Richard always loved the pets. His favorite pets were dogs and especially puppies. In past years, when he was more able to walk he would go to the Humane Society on his outings with "Ambitions" and walk the dogs or just visit them. A recent special highlight was his 79th birthday. He had told staff a month before his birthday that he wanted a birthday cake and balloons for his birthday. His Community Access team "Ambitions" brought in several of his friends on that special day and everyone enjoyed ice cream cake, gifts, and of course balloons. This was indeed a very special day for Richard. Richard was preceded in death by his parents and older brothers Benny and Alvin Lobe. Richard's Guardian wishes to thank Highline Care Center who have been his family the past four years, for their constant love and care for Richard, to Ambitions for their years of devotion and getting Richard out in the community for socialization and fun activities, and to Central Washington Hospital Hospice for their dedicated comfort care during the last week of his illness. Richard was loved by anyone who ever knew him. If your life was touched by Richard, you will never forget him. He will be greatly missed. A public "Celebration of Life" will be held on Monday, April 23, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. in the Activity Room at Highline Care Center, 609 Highline Dr., East Wenatchee, WA, with Pastor Michael McNiel officiating. Inurnment will take place following at the Wenatchee City Cemetery on Western Avenue in Wenatchee. Arrangements are provided by Telford's Chapel of the Valley.
