Robert "Bob" Floyd

Robert “Bob” Floyd, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on December 26, 2024, surrounded by support from his family and friends. Born on August 1, 1941, in Detroit, Michigan to Lester and Irene Floyd, Bob lived a life of faith, service, and community that touched countless lives. In 1950, Bob’s family moved to Sunnyvale, California, where he spent his childhood with his brother Jim, and graduated from high school. He began his college journey at UC Berkeley, studying chemistry while working as a computer tech. Later, he transferred to North Park University in Chicago, where he majored in psychology while working as a chemical lab tech. Feeling a call to ministry, Bob joined a missionary program at Fuller University, which led him to serve in Ecuador, from 1968 to 1969. After returning to Chicago, Bob resumed work as a lab technician but soon felt another calling. In 1971, he moved to Twisp, Washington at the invitation of his friend Wayne Mendro to help establish a Christian community known as Second Mile Ranch. Bob’s early years in Twisp were filled with many roles that reflected his willingness to serve wherever he was needed. He worked as a counselor at a boys’ ranch, a reading teacher at the junior high, and a saw operator at Second Mile Sawmill. Through a fortuitous turn of events, a mishap led Bob to leave his role at the Sawmill and take a job as night auditor at Sun Mountain Lodge. Here he discovered an interest in accounting and tax preparation and decided to turn it into a lifelong career in financial services. In 1976, Bob founded The Floyd Company, preparing tax returns for friends and neighbors in the Methow Valley. His dedication and expertise led him to expand his business to include financial planning, earning his CFP (Certified Financial Planner) and later retiring in 2010 passing The Floyd Company to his children. Retirement didn’t slow him down—he and his wife, Sue, started a travel business, leading group tours and planning international vacations for others. Bob met his wife Sue at a local Twisp Bible study and married on June 19, 1982, at the Second Mile Ranch. Their union of over four decades was marked by partnership, shared passions, and commitment to their community church. Bob was also deeply involved in his church communities. He was a founding member of Community Covenant Church in Twisp (1988) and Columbia Grove Covenant Church in Wenatchee (2004). His creativity and sense of humor were evident in the skits and plays he performed at both churches, bringing laughter and faith lessons to all who watched. Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Irene Floyd, and his brother, James Floyd. He is survived by his wife, Sue Floyd, and their son, Brett Floyd; his former spouse, Marjory Wilkinson, and their children, Andy, Aaron, Jim, and Pam Floyd; and many grandchildren and cherished friends. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to assist with unexpected expenses and medical fees. Bob’s legacy of faith, service, and humor will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
