Robert M. Hale

Robert "Bob" passed away Sunday, September 28, 2014, at Columbia Heights, Wenatchee, WA. He was born in Huntsville, AL to Earl Hale and Betsy (Hale) Stewart. He served in the Navy from March 1943, to late 1946, in WWII on the USS YMS 283 mine sweep. While in the Navy, he married his sweetheart, Eleanor C. Beautner. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Eleanor C. Hale; father, Earl Hale; mother, Betsy Stewart; and brother, Charles "Charlie" Hale. He is survived by his four children: daughters, Carol Smith (Jim) of Olympia, WA and Linda Hale of Sequim, WA; sons, Roy Hale of East Wenatchee, WA and Bob Hale (Rosalie) of Wenatchee, WA; a loving daughter of the heart, Shelby Swete of Sequim, WA; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; sister, Earlene McKee and sister-in-law, Sally Hale, both of Cottonwood, CA. He served in the Navy and worked several jobs until they moved to Wenatchee. He worked at Ardenvoir Lumber Mill, Wenatchee School District as a janitor, did painting around the Valley, and as a shuttle driver for the Red Lion (Wenatchee) until his final retirement. He was a member of the VFW, Wenatchee and Sequim, WA. His hobbies were bowling, playing pool with his kids and grandkids, but most of all, he loved playing softball on a senior league with his son, Bob Hale Jr., on the Gateway Team as father and son Hales. The whole team called him grandpa. Pitcher, Bob Jr., and catcher, "Grandpa" Bob Hale Sr. He and wife, Eleanor, later moved to Sequim, WA to live closer to their daughters, Linda Hale and Carol Smith, where their daughters took care of them and he was able to live his dream of being closer to the ocean and the ships. After losing his beloved wife, Eleanor, he later moved back to Wenatchee, WA, where the boys were. He resided at Columbia Heights until his death. His daughter, Linda, took great care of him, even after he moved to Wenatchee. He will be missed by his family and friends. We would like to thank everyone from Columbia Heights and members of his church, Mid Valley in Dryden, WA, for all who made him feel loved and the comfort and care everyone gave him. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
