Roberta Vanderlin

Roberta Gene Vanderlin February 15, 1942 ~ August 6, 2014 Our beloved wife and mother died on August 6, 2014, at the age of 72, after a long battle with cancer, surrounded by her loving family. Roberta was born on February 15, 1942, in Portland, OR to Leston and Zelma Durham. She graduated from Cottage Grove, OR High School. While attending Southern Oregon College in Ashland, OR, she met and married Orville Vanderlin in 1964, and moved to McKenzie Bridge, OR. She and her family first moved to Wenatchee, WA in 1966, and lived there for three years. In 1969, she and her family moved to Medford, OR, where they lived for five years. Living in Medford provided the opportunity to return to Southern Oregon College, where she completed her degree in 1972. In 1974, she and her family happily seized the opportunity to move back to Wenatchee, where she lived until her death. While living there she worked for the Washington State Apple Commission and the Wenatchee Valley College, from which she retired in 2004. Roberta was a very active member of Saddlerock Presbyterian Church, where, among other roles, she served as an Elder and a member of the choir. She was a member of American Association University Women. Roberta was a passionate gardener; she had a particular love for roses. Her other interests included music, travel and reading. Before her death, she looked forward to celebrating her 50th Wedding Anniversary, which she was able to do with family and friends in May of this year. Roberta is survived by the loving and supportive husband she married 50 years ago on May 2, 1964, in McKenzie Bridge, OR; her children, Andrew Vanderlin of Wenatchee, WA, and Jennifer Rudd of Klamath Falls, OR; and her sister, Ramona Durham of Edmonds, WA. The family would like to thank all of their wonderful friends and family for their loving support, and the Oncology staff at Confluence Health and Hospice for their outstanding care and understanding. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, August 18, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. at Saddlerock Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Wenatchee. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Saddlerock Presbyterian Church or Cancer Care of North Central Washington (the "Our House"). Arrangements are assisted by Telford's Chapel of the Valley, East Wenatchee.
