Ruby Shiflett

Our Beloved Ruby, age 83, left this earth on July 5, 2009. She passed away peacefully in the loving arms of her girl, Danielle. Ruby Mae Hastings was born on April 30, 1926, to John Arch and Annie (Ferguson) Hastings in Izzard County, AR. As a young girl, she moved with her parents and four brothers, Wick, Dick, Truman and Boyce, and her three sisters, Opal, Eunice and Loulla Mae, and lived out the rest of her life in the Wenatchee area. She received her education in the Wenatchee School system and spent over 35 years of her adult life as a Sorting Supervisor at Stemilt Growers, Inc.; a job she truly loved and where she met many life-long friends. She met and later married Tom Shiflett on August 13, 1950, and together they raised five children, Butch, Steve, Peggy, Lucky and Debbie and later helped raise their first born granddaughter, Danielle. Ruby's children and grandchildren were the light of her life. Along with her husband, Tom, Ruby was very active in 4-H and FFA and spent many hours over the years at the Chelan and Douglas County Fairs, watching them show their animals. Her home and family were very important to her and her unconditional love for them was extraordinary. Ruby and her husband, Tom, made many wonderful friends over the years, and enjoyed getting together with their families, visiting or going camping and making many happy memories that will always be treasured. They also enjoyed a good night out at the Eagles, socializing and dancing the night away, or a good potluck dinner at the Grange Hall. Over the years, they made many memories, which all involved will keep close to their hearts. Ruby is survived by her husband, Tom, of the family home; one brother, Boyce (Marie) Hastings; one sister, Loulla Mae; her children and their spouses, Steve (Jane) Shiflett, Peggy McDougall, Lucky (Vi) Shiflett and Debbie Ercanbrack; her grandchildren, Danielle (Wayne Gibbs) Shiflett, Stephanie (Vern) Matthews, Seth (Mary) Shiflett, Shannon (Nate) Merz, Thomas Ercanbrack, Michael (Jacqueline) Shiflett, Will Shiflett, Pat (Julie) Lopeman and Kristina Fry Shiflett; and great-grandchildren, Garett and Cash Matthews, along with twin babies due in September. Ruby was also blessed with many step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren, whom she loved like her own. Her numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends gave her countless hours of joy and always held a special place in her heart. Ruby was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved son, Michael Butch Shiflett; her brothers, Wick (Lois) Hastings, Dick Hastings and Truman Hastings; as well as her sisters, Eunice and Opal. Ruby was treasured and loved by all who had the pleasure to meet her and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. A Graveside Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 10, 2009, at the Stemilt Hill Cemetery.
