Ruth Brown

Ruth Marie Radford Brown was born on December 2, 1924, and passed January 2, 2024. Ruth was born in Harding, a small community in Bourbon County, Kansas, to parents Bertha White and Grant Radford. When Ruth was almost two years old her father was killed in a hunting accident. At the time, her mother was pregnant with her brother Jim. Ruth and Jim were very close throughout their lives. Several years later, Bertha married John Taylor, and through that union, Ruth gained a sister, Minnie, and a brother, John. On June 10, 1944, Ruth married Windiford Henry Brown in Tacoma, Washington. Dad had hitchhiked from Kansas to Washington to work in the war industry. Mom and her best friend and Dad’s sister, Margaret, followed by the bus. Mom was one of the famous Rosie the Riveters working on airplanes for the war effort. Mom and Dad have known each other since elementary school when they got in trouble with the teacher for talking in class when they should have been reading. Mom loved to read; she read every book in the children’s section of the library, so the librarian let her move up to the adult section. That love of reading continued throughout her 99 years. Mom and Dad were married 70 years when Dad passed away on July 2, 2014. They had three children, Thomas Henry Brown, Patricia Ruth Brown Felgenhauer, and Bradley Gus Brown. Mom loved her dogs. She always had one by her chair or on her lap while reading or watching television. Bowling was a favorite activity, and the many trophies, including one for the Eagles Washington State championship, prove what a talented bowler she was. Mom is survived by her children Patricia of Spokane, WA, and Bradley of East Wenatchee, WA; six grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and nieces, and nephews. Anyone wishing to remember Ruth with a donation may do so at any organization that cares for animals or the organization of your choice. The family is grateful for the visits and care from Hospice and the caregivers at Colonial Vista. Services will be held Saturday, March 9, 2024, at 11:00 am at Evergreen Memorial Park, 1301 10th St NE, East Wenatchee. Arrangements by Chapel of the Valley, East Wenatchee. Rest in peace, Mom.
