Sharon Cockrum

Sharon Ann Cockrum Wenatchee, Wa. Sharon Ann Cockrum passed away on Monday, February 22, 2016 from complications of cardiac arrest. Sharon was born November 16, 1944 in Seattle to Francis J. and Gloria L. Moriarty. Her brother Dennis joined the family in June of 1946. The family moved to Twisp, Wa. in 1950 and her father went to work for her great grandfather, Ernst Wagner at the Wagner Lumber Mill. Her sister Colleen joined the family in 1954 and her brother Kevin in 1957. Sharon attended school in Twisp and graduated from Twisp High School in 1962. The fall of that year found her on her way to Spokane to attend Gonzaga University where she earned her teaching degree. She graduated from Gonzaga in 1966. She remained a loyal, ZAG fan. She began her teaching career in the Seattle area where she taught for one year before moving to Wenatchee. In Wenatchee she taught at Whitman, Mission View and John Newberry elementary schools. She taught for 37 years and impacted the lives of countless children. On July 17, 1976 she married the love of her life, Dennis A. Cockrum in Wenatchee. They enjoyed almost 40 years of marriage. They loved to travel, play golf and RV with friends. After her retirement from teaching she spent her time reading, gardening and volunteering. She was active in the Applearians helping sponsor Apple Blossom and the American Legion helping with dinners and sprucing up the grounds with flowers. It is impossible to sum up the life of someone we loved so much and are missing terribly. She lived life to the fullest and will be missed by all whose lives she touched. Her spirit will always be with us and she will forever be in our hearts. Sharon is survived by her husband Dennis; her sister Colleen Hensley (Greg); niece Breanne Hensley; brother Kevin Moriarty; nephew Brady Moriarty and sister in law Jackie Moriarty of Twisp; uncle Gerald Haugen of Gresham, Oregon; cousins Mark and Paul Haugen of Portland; brother in law Mike Cockrum; nephew Shawn Cockrum (Kristy); great nephews Austin and Aiden Cockrum; niece Sundee Sanders (Andy); great nephew Kannon Sanders; along with many cousins in Michigan, California and Alaska. And their beloved cat Tiger Lily. Sharon was preceded in death by her parents Francis and Gloria Moriarty; her brother Dennis Moriarty; her grandparents Arthur and Molly Pohlman and Charles and Mary Evelyn Moriarty; aunt Mollyann Haugen; in laws Alan and Betty Cockrum; sister in law Sue Cockrum. A Funeral service will be held at Telford's Chapel of the Valley Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. with Chaplain Scott Langager officiating. Concluding services and interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park. The casket will remain closed at all times. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or American Lung Association. Arrangements are by Telford's Chapel of the Valley, East Wenatchee.
